Does any one how to wire head light squirters on a car that didn't have them to begin with? I only want tham to work went the head lights are up or on, I don't want them to work like the early mkiii's, they work when you hit the button. Is there a relay or a hot circut when the lights are up or on? I could tap in the head lights when there on but that's probaly not right.

hehe, have you actually gotten them turned around backwards? i remember i tried it once, but it involved taking the nose off or something, so i just did it a different way.
There were a lot of wet crotches when i pulled it into the shop at school and had people lean over to look at the bay. haha, it gets everyone! every time!

well, the button only really works when you press it, so no pressing, no working...

I know in Canada they were available longer than in the states, maybe ask someone up north...

The TSRM EWD section should have it. If not, they probably didnt have it that year.

Dont want to get too far off topic but..

I plan on using my setup for intercooler sprayers. I'm fairly certain they dont work as is, so I'd have to replace most of the hardware anyways (and would prefer a nose without them to tell you the truth) but at least the car is practically already built for them

I've used the ones on my 88 many times when driving on the highway. It's amazing how much dust and dirt gets on there slowly without even noticing it. They work quite well.

Most people forget to clean em when washing the car as well...

But it's not something I would add to a car that didn't have it...

I wouldn't... at least not unless I started doing a lot more driving out of the city at night.

I do realize that they can be a HUGE help though, and they can be great in snowy areas if you get ice starting to build up too.

Poodles is probably right. I put them up prior to washing so I won't forget.

The stock squirters operate only when the headlights are on and even then only for a second because the cleaner relay is a one-shot. I like having them but use that button mainly because it does double duty for the turbo timer and anti-carjack system. I also know people who've use their washer system for carbon removal. Imo that's overkill but whatever turns them on...

JJ have you got a write up on your TT and alarm using that button? Or is that a personal thing you'd rather not share?

I wash my lights when I wash my car. I could see them being useful in colder climates, but only if you can keep the reservoir from freezing over. That would be the only time I'd think they were very useful.

Since my TT and anti-jack is a custom designed system a write up would be of no help. Besides, it's 20 years old and the drawings are long lost. Lucky for me the damn thing still works as well as the day I built it. The anti-jack is complicated but the TT is simple: Whenever the headlights are off the button triggers the timer and flashes the key ring red during timing. Each flash is one second long and accompanied by a beep.

When the headlights are on the button runs the washers but also flashes the key ring and beeps once (as a test) each time the button is pressed. In that case no timing or ignition override is begun. Course, turning on the lights cancels the TT if it happens to be running.

All that said I don't see why anyone couldn't use the washer button to trigger an aftermaket timer (or anything else for that matter), assuming it has an input for that. Doing so should be simple enough.

That is an incredible setup! Quite ingenious! That takes a level of electrical engineering that I would rather create a second system for rather than tapping into an existing system.

Somewhat related so I decided to bump this instead of making my own thread, can anyone take a pic of the plugs for the squirters? Pre89 if it makes a difference, I found two identical unhooked connectors on opposite sides of the bay and can't think of anything else they'd go to.

Doesn't work that way Quin. Washers are fed by tubing from the reservoir using a pump. Three separate pumps in system: 1) windshield 2) rear window 3) headlamps. Prioritized baffling in reservoir so headlights run out of fluid first, rear window second, windshield last. Clever, 'dem Japanese engineers...

Maybe I'll divide the reservrior into thirds not use washer fluid in the head light squirter third and fill it with beer and run the tubing in the car.:naughty:
