So I have to replace my windshield. I would take it to someone to do, BUT theres som rust around the windshield that needs to take care of, so I will do that part.

I've read the TSRM its got all this whacky stuff you need like primers etc. I thought you just need the Urethane that comes in a tube such as this one:

Also, how hard is it to install the clips that attach the moulding around the windshield? There seems to be 3 different types of them around the whole thing.

Any advice etc?

Thanks.

NA's and 1JZ cars have windshields too. Not just 7M Turbo Tech related...

Anyhow, I have never done it. I will be, if you want to wait like 3 months... otherwise, sorry.

kthxbye.

back when i was in highschool i worked in an auto glass shop....

basically they remove the window by using some special knife... scrape all the shit out... use a big swab thing dipped in a black primer to go over all the metal around the edges and then use urethane to adhere it to the frame.

i'm sure the primer is used to make sure the frame remains rust free since it's scraped all to hell when the window is removed and any protective coating/paint it had was probably removed as well.

this is just going off memory from about 13 yrs ago, i'm sure someone knows better then i do.

I come from a land down under
There's a 2 handed tool with a blade and a cable handle you use to slice through the urethane glue strip that bonds the glass to the body.
(after you've removed all of the trim parts)

I've done it. I'll pay a shop to do it in the future, it was messy and a pain in the ass.

I skipped most of the 'prep' work after I had the original windshield out, a shop sold me some glue that is built to bond to the original glue still on there. Worked very well.

I was still picking glass slivers out of my black glue covered hands for weeks. :(

Most places will come and install it for you, unless you're putting in a used windshield, I can't see any reason to not get them to do it.

He's my hero if he managed to get a windscreen out of a car without cracking it. I tried a couple of years ago in a junk yard and gave up after the second one I tried started cracking.

I would get someone to do it, but theres rust around the windshield area that I must take care of first. Maybe I will take out the old one myself and clean it up and then let them come and just paste the glue or watever onto the windshield and set it in for me.

I can take out the glass and I have a used one on hand, but I'm more concerned as to what glue/adhesives I should be using when doing this. Seems like I need some "primer" to place on the original urethane to make it stick to the new urethane.
