well im about done with my swap and it seems like my stock n/a 7m fuel pump seems to be doing fine but i dont have an air fuel ratio gauge hooked up so i dont know if it is leaning out, im just going to run it untuned for right now with stock boost, but i do plan on putting a walbro in it, i just want to know if i would be safe to run my stock pump, has anyone done this?

You'll be fine, I ran my 1jz for years on a stock fuel pump. The 1jz injectors are smaller than the 7m ones.

The NA fuel pump is the same as the Turbo pump. They are the same part number.

Incorrect. They went to one fuel pump after 08/1990, before that, there are different pumps for GE or GTE. His profile says he has an 89, so he has a GE pump.

Will he be fine? Maybe, but it's still an old GE pump on a turbo car, and most 1J swaps are not entirely stock (intake and exhaust are usually modified to fit).

If you want to risk your engine for a $90 part than go for it, I'd rather not worry if the 22 year old fuel pump is up to the task

You are right, I didn't look closely enough at the EPC.

My original point still stands, the 370cc injectors on the 1jz are hardly pushing the limits of the 7mge pump. Am I trying to argue against upgrading? No. But the pump he has will work fine.

Don't look at the injector size, look at the power the engine makes. They could just be running the injectors at a higher duty cycle than they do on the 7M, which is still consuming more fuel.

Walbros are cheap, engine rebuilds are not...

Actually, I was wrong from the start on this one, I thought for some reason the 7mge injectors were 380cc. The biggest 7mge ones apparently only flow 315cc, which means it's possible the 7mge fuel pump isn't designed to handle anywhere near enough fuel.

I apologize, my 7m knowledge is a bit rusty.

Personally I would drop a MKIV TT denso pump in there myself. 1st because I hate the coffee grinder noise of walboro's and 2nd because a new fuel pump thats more than up to task never hurts and 3rd because the MKIV pump is even better than the MKIII GTE pump.

Lastly, do a check of your pump wiring, make sure it's not cracked, aged, worn or otherwise un-healthy at the very least. I would even further recommend redoing your wiring in a slightly chunkier guage if you do decide to go with the MKIV pump. People have complained about their wiring warming up which is not a good thing when moving to the higher drawing MKIV pump.

fwiw I've made up to like 380whp on a stock 7m pump. It's more than enough for a 1j dude. The turbos will go before the pump.
