No pics, but the JDM harness is for a right hand drive car with the ECU under the glove box on the left...the harness is too short to use in USDM Supras as a result. Plus, the '87-'88 harness is different (ECU plug wise - yellow vs grey plug) from the '89+ version. There's also the issue os a manual vs auto tranny harness...an auto will work in a manual car, but not the other way around.

ignroe the top one thats from an aristo
next one down is a 87 manual turbo ECU
next one is a 90 turbo manual
next one is a 89 turbo auto

plugs get only more different from there :)

Doesn't matter...the JDM harness is still too short.

A USDM manual tranny harness will be needed for the '90 ECU and you'll have to swap over several of the sensors on the motor to the '89+ versions from your old motor...the plugs are different.

i have to swap stuff over? to the best of my knowledge this is basically a drop in affair. will i be able to use the ECU pictured as long as i get a usdm 89+ 5spd harness? what sensors do i need to swap?

could i just solder an extra foot of wire to the JDM harness and use that?

There are some different sensors on an 87 88 model. I can't confirm this, but was told by a reputable source that you can put a yellow plug harness and ecu in an 89 and that the plugs from the harness will fit the body harness. If that is possible then just get a pre 89 harness and ecu for the car. If not, get ready to do some swapping of sensors. Not that big a deal really.

if someone can let me know for sure if i can use a pre89 harness and ecu in the car i already have one. i found the one i nees but if i dont need to spend the money i wont. ill compare some of the plugs tomorrow. i know the injector clips on the pre89 are all the same color and on the 89+ they're grey and dark red.
thanks for all the replies so far guys!!!

Just cut the wires going to the sensors and solder them to the harness. Extend the harness or cut a whole in the firewall, just like a 1JZ swap.

i was just going to extend it right where it went through the firewall but now im not sure if i'll be able to use the JDM harness since they dont have emissions and all that other great stuff we have here... also it doesnt have the plugs for my t-stat housing.

Hey there.

I answered your PM.

First off, you need to determine which '89 chassis you have. An early '89 will be different from a late '89, and this will determine which ECU/harness will be a better fit. The fastest way to check is to look at the motor mounts. If they're rectangular, then you've got an early '89. If they're round, then you have a late '89.

If you have an early '89, then an '87 or '88 harness will fit your connectors better.

If you have a late '89, then the '90 harness will work better.

If your car is already a turbo, then you're best off using the harness and ECU that you have, and making it fit the motor as you build it.

My car was an NA, and I fit an '87 7M-GTE with the harness and ECU into it. As I mentioned in the PM, there were some issues, but in the end it all worked out.
