when i am sitting in my supra at idle, i hear almost what sounds like a knocking, but it isn't consecutive... it's sorta like this: (i=knock)
i......i...i..........i.........i...i...i..........i.........i.i...........i..i.........i...............i.....
very strange, and you can really only hear it while in the car at idle. It isn't very loud, and the car seems to run and drive perfectly fine, but it has been worrying me, also when bigaaron looked at it, he thought that it could be the power steering pump going bad.... any ideas?? Thanks!!

i was thinking, and i think that the sound started after i changed the oil last, from dino 10w-40 to Mobil1 10w-30 (recommended in manual), also, it seems like the car doesnt run quite as smooth as it did before, a super-SUPER tiny bit of bumpiness at idle, but still idles fine...ugh and would having too much oil in the engine cause rod knock?? I was thinking ths, because it looks like my oil pan has a dent in it, so maybe the reading on the dipstick is slightly off??

Try switching back to dino oil, and maybe a little heaver weight. I don't think a little over would hurt anything, a lot of guys around here run a little over full.

When IJ was building his first engine he measure the capacity of the stock oil pan and it can hold 10 quarts without touching the crank. I run 6 just to be sure.
And what Jimi said, try a heavier weight oil.

well, tonight, I took off the accordian hose, and just as I suspected, it was completely destroyed, it separated from the piece being held on by a clamp... i took off this piece, and it broke into like 5 pieces :aigo: so, since I have to get to school tomorrow morning, i just pushed the accodian hose (minus clampable part) onto the turbo inlet, making sure it was sealed properly (this is just temporary), and then adjusting the other clamps to allow for the extra clearance, i also replaced a vacuum line that had a bad crack in it...

fired it up, and now it idles as smooth as silk, and from what i can hear, the noise is gone!! Although i will still have to listen to it some more... the bad hose still probably has a minor leak in it, until i can get my hands on a new one...

so, it looks like i am off to Toyota tomorrow to spend $120 on a new accordian....ugh

really?? only $35?? can anyone verify that the accordian hoses are the same on 87-89 supras as they are on 90-92's?
if your going to spend $130 get the hardpiped bling'd out super duper cool accordian hose from cooleeze. Comes with silicone couplers and its stock bolt up but it wont ever deteriorate on you :naughty:

oh god... just came in from my car, i started it, to listen to it again, and the noise is still there... except now, when it was idling, there was asteady stream of white smoke coming from the exhaust, not like a cloud, just a little, and the when i rev, it water started dripping waters out of it onto the ground beneath the tailpipe. I also noticed some smoke coming from what seemed to be the side of the engine the turbo is on (just for a sec). What do you guys think?

I am just speculating, but, i'm sure some people read my last thread about the episode my car had, and everyone seemed sure it was a BHG, but it has been some time since then, and the car has been perfectly fine, until this noise, so what if the noise is rod knock caused by a BHG, and now it's just acting up again (smoke, etc..?)

Damn, seeing that smoke made me depressed.
