Anyone care to fill me in on the details of exactly how wideband sensors tend to fail? I've heard that they are less robust than narrowband sensors, but by how much, and how can you tell when they start to go?

Generally, it is the heat that cooks them. They say the ideal location is near the cat.

My Innovate LC-1 sensor just failed, after installing a different downpipe that has the sensor only 3" from the turbo. I was getting odd number readings on my digital display, but when I hooked up my laptop, it showed me Error 8 (too hot, sensor timing error)

I just bought one of these Innovate HBX-1 heat sinks to keep it cooler. It is directional, and I had to order a bunch of very thin copper shims so that I can tighten this thing so the gas flows into the front hole.

Easy to make a heat sink out of copper. They are a little fragile, don't drop them. Grounding is a common problem, make sure to connect to a good ground.

Had mine for around a year now, couldn't say how they start going bad, but I suppose when you start getting "funny" readings after calibration even, it might be starting to go bad.

I come from a land down under
LSU 4.9's seem to default to Stoich when they go off, I've fouled up my pair a couple of times during remapping but a quick pass with the Oxy torch to burn off the carbon and deposits has bought them back each time.

I get 3+ years from a sensor before retiring it, I also mount mine in the DP down beside the trans it's a little slower to react but you get much longer life.

The last time my LC1 failed (two months ago) it went to 15.0 and stayed there, it also showed an error code. I have had three Innovate LC1's sensors fail in two years, one sensor went within 5 min of the initial install!!. While my old AEM has had the same sensor for 5 years and in 3-4 cars and is now my portable tuning unit.......I will not buy an Innovate again, all the hassel if installing them with the LED and push swith and the stupid calibrations thats reccomended every 5000 km's.....AEM= two wires, power, ground and you are good to go, no problems.
