Why is the 1G such a mystery? Where's the information?

I've noticed this for years now, and to everyone (including me), the 1G-GTE has been a mystery motor. I'd love it if there was a way to get more info on it, the potential, the market, and basic stock info about it. I personally hate it when everyone blows this motor off because they simply do NOT know enough about it, just like everyone else. It's a shame that this motor hardly ever gets potential, and I was thinking it'd be cool to have the motor as a rarety item, and something not so cliche' such as the 1jz, and 7M motors. Anyone else agree? I'd love to get the HKS stroker that they made to make it a 2.2L, I personally think it'd be mean, but I'm sure no one else wants to even think of the potential. :3d_frown:

It's an underdog. The truth is that it's an extremely smooth inline 6 engine that makes around 210hp stock (at the crank)
This translates to roughly 180ish to the wheels, and that is why it is unfavorable.
In stock form, it can handle about 400hp with supporting mods.

Look around. There's info out there, it's just buried!

as I said in the other thread, Rinkya/yahooauctions japan is your friend when it comes to that engine.

IMO it would be great in a DD'd Supra or even a Cressida. Of course, the possibilities are endless as I've seen one in an AE86....

Basicly, when it comes to the 7m 1jz debate, the main arguement 7m guys use against the 1jz is .5 liters.. because displacement makes a difference. Dropping a whole liter , thats alot. It might be fine motor, but it just wasn't enough for the a70 body! I would definately like some info though.

lol

Im sure Stephe would disagree with the rare and novelty part. hehe

Like Kurt said, I wouldnt mind one in a DD, it would be like a N/A with some turbo pep, right?

Exactly, Drew. It's a turbo engine with NA power ;)
They're plenty worthy of modifying, but I'd rather keep it bolt-on and stay out of trouble.

With that much(little) power, I personally think it would be a great powerplant to shoehorn into a lighter car like an AE86 like supra90turbo mentioned, or a 4th gen Celica, and so forth.

Thanks for chiming in Suze. One of the few people with actual real-world experience with this engine.
ProjectSupra has one in his car. He said it's a great engine and loves everything about it.
