experience, young grasshopper, that's how.
problem solving. he may have never had a heater core out, but he knows how to step back and properly assess a situation and have a plan of attack.

Yep! Experience and treachery will beat youth and brute strength every time...LOL ;)

In addition to stepping back and accessing the problem, I bet he doesn't let it frustrate him when he hits a glitch. That's where patience comes in...he's figured out that getting frustrated is only going to work against you. That's where he will re-access and attack the problem again. Probably learned patience from dealing with his kids all these years (just yanking your chain a little...LOL). All this assumes he's mechanically inclined of course.

Ask him how he does it...not the task itself, but what is he looking at when he accesses the problem. How is his logic working to solve it? I know he'll be happy to tell you...it's not a secret. And after all, you are his son...Dads love to teach their sons the tricks learned through the years ;)

lol that's awesome.

I gotta give my dad tons of credit he's taught me everything I know. He made me confident enough in figuring things out that I've rebuilt my motor and swapped my trans with very little problems.

lol Yeah, my dad has experience and all but he is not too mechanically minded. When it comes to cars, i'm faster and sometimes smarter.

I do know what you mean though because when I work with him we always learn something new from each other.

ROFL!!! :word8kn: ;)

But my grandpa.....he amazes me!
I was so embarrassed, I took the door pull on the Supie passenger door off, I was trying to screw back in the screws that are inside of it (the ones covered up by the plastic plug thingys) but it kept slipping and starting to strip. I couldn't get it to go w/o stripping the head of the screw (keep in mind I'm 6/3, 220lbs and fairly strong). He comes over to help, and gets the screw in just fine......hes' 70 years old and did it with his left hand!!!

I wanted to go hang my head and cry lol.

My grandpa taught me so much about how to use tools and more importantly how to have patience and not get frustrated.
My dad doesn't know too much about cars other then how to put gas in them. My dad did show me the actual difference between shit and Shinola though.

I'm thinking that 85% of the time you think he's wrong 95% of the time, is you're just too stubborn and hardheaded to see that he is 75% right...............:biglaugh:

LilMiss sounds like she could be my daughter posting here. I can cook and build anything, but I am a complete idiot at alot of other things...............lol
