So the dumb a** that owned my car before me ran the wiring harness through the intake Mani and it has been frustrating. There is a wire that runs all the way down to on top the tranny and splits off and clips to two little black boxes that I assume are speed sensors or something. Anyway I tried taking my shifter boot off and going from the top to unclip it and I just couldn't reach it. I finally got so frustrated I just jammed my damn hands up over the tranny and fished a flathead around and pushed the clip out, but the second one the black box broke off.

My questions are first; what is this little black box, because I need to replace it? (Anyone got one)?

Other question is since I am sticking with the stock manifolds what is the best way to shine these things up? I want them to look almost chrome so what is a safe effective way of cleaning these that well?

You will be needing this, a lot.

Yes the harness goes over the trans and there is a clip up there.
There is a speed sensor which is the one that screws onto the side of the trans and is a cable, the electronic one is the reverse light switch. Ehlmhurst Toyota is a vender here, and is great to deal with if you need any parts.
Also yes the harness is supposed to sit on top of the lower intake and under the upper intake. Obviously they would need to be like that to feed power to the injectors, knock sensors, and so on. Unless you want to rewire it and run it under the lower intake manifold (which would be harder to access) live with it.

I am also curious as to why you are taking off the harness. Are you taking out the engine, or had a BHG?
Anyways, good luck with your battle, these cars are fun and a pita at the same time.

7M4EVR as this being your first Supra i hope you're not the impatient type like me. These cars can be money pits when pitting them back to good power conditions. I lot of people ditch the 7M motor after having too many issues and go for a 1JZ or 2Jz setup. The 7M is a good engine dont get me wrong it's just a bit trickyto get the setup right. Good luck on your build and take your time and ask plenty of questions. This is a good site with helpful guys/girls to get your project running.

Hell yeah from Does moines ehh....yeah pulling the motor complete rebuild.

Yes sir, there is a few of us MKIII guys here in the metro.

Anyways when I did my head gasket I pulled the harness off of the engine, but when I pulled my engine, I pulled the harness out from behind the dash. I found this much easier to do, and I hear many people on this forum say that pull the harness from the ecu, don't pull the plugs, as it is quicker and easier to do.

This may help you with removing your engine/trans. I used it on removing my engine, and it helped.

Toyota did :p

Also, most cars are the same way...

Anyway, if you're attempting to pull the engine, you disconnect the wiring harness from the body and ECU under the dash and pull it with the engine.

Learn something new everyday, about the harness through the mani, i guess I have never seen that. And uhhh yeah...if I wanted to do it the easy way i could have just disconnected the ecu... LOL damn i wish i would learn how to ask questions before i do dumb shit! The motor is out and most of the wiring harness is just folded up and laying on the windshield..And one more thing, Satx88supra just giving you shit here but you don't have to convince me of the potential of the 7M hence my Username, that engine is like my 2nd wife (you can try and study them before you marry them but in the end its gonna end up costing you alot of money and your gonna be left wanting more!) I have spent alot of time researching how to do it right though, and i have also spent alot of money on it. I fully intend to take my time and do it right, I'm just not half as mechanically inclined as you smart asses!

I would still pull the harness out from the ECU and out of the car if I were you. When you are reassembling the engine and getting ready to put it back in the car, put the harness on the engine before dropping it in. It is almost always the best way to do it.
