Hey guys, my cars got this weird smoking habit after I installed my alcohol injection.. or at least.. thats when I noticed it. My turbo is brand new, my heaggasket it good, no other symptoms.

the car only smokes after I've been decelerating in gear, and then when I hit the gas I get a nice big puff of smoke. It just smells like exhaust. What do you think?

I don't know how true this holds up but someone once told me smoke on acceleration = worn out piston rings. Smoke deceleration = valve seals. I don't think the smoke would be white though.

Bad seals on the exh side of the turbo, my SP61gt started leaking after only 25 miles on a warranty rebuild for a broken shaft. On acceleration the turbo shaft shifts forward sealing off the oil leak on the rear seal, on deceleration shaft moves back leaking oil into the elbow which gives you small puffs of smoke, when you stomp on the gas again, oil pressure increases causing more oil to leak past the rear seal and then a great puff of smoke until all the oil has been burnt of in the elbow...then it does it all over again with each shift but clears up on a steady cruise. At least that is what is happening with my turbo right now. Monitor your oil level, check your elbow for any traces of oil.

Sorry to resurrect the dead here, but I'm having the same issue.

I get smoke, whiteish, but no sweet smell.
it ONLY happens when I decellerate in gear, or downshift to slow down. Especially in first. And, I have what sounds like a very slight Turbo death whine. I suppose the two could be related?

Yes. Oil smoke is pure white when not comming from the combustion chamber.

Rear piston ring oil failure makes white smoke.

My problem was/is indeed the turbo. It has really bad shaft play.. I dont even know why. It makes me mad I've had the turbo less than a year. (BTW, I bought it brand new and always treated it good).

I was in denial for a while until a week ago.. now there is so much smoke its unbearable.

Take off your downpipe and inspect the area for oil, its probably the turbo.

Well, it depends on your PCV setup. If you're running the stock PCV setup I'd consider a small ammount of oil normal, however with an efficient catch can setup and a clean intake track, you should see no oil. You may want to see how much oil comes out of your intercooler.

Whose turbo did you buy?

Currently trying to digest all the turbo garble to make a informed choice.

Need it to last.

Sound Performance, I cant decide if I'm gonna get it rebuilt and sell it, or if I'm going to upgrade to a SP61GTBB or SP67GTBB. SP is trying to help me out, even tho the turbo did crap out a month after the warranty ran out. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I want a turbo that will last.. and this one hasn't.

SP is great for a bolt on affair, and so are boss' turbos appearantly. Too bad its out of my price range right now.

Well, I'm kinda torn into spending the money and getting a good turbo, by good I mean one that is going to last. I hear so many horror stories about turbos locking up and blowing seals and breaking shafts that I don't know wether to shit or wind my watch.

Trying to go with the "do it once, do it right" way of thinking. Was planning on spending in the neighborhood of 1700.00, but now wondering if it wouldn't be better to spend say 750.00 and see how it plays out.

I just can't afford to buy turbos every six or eight months, its not me, its the mrs. She is pretty good about me and my toy, so I don't want to push it.

Would like to get a dual bb CHRA but seems like its boss or garrett. All the garrett ones I saw were external wastegate, well the ones that work for the
7m anyway. How long was the warranty on that SP?

another option is the SS T4 header, and a T4 turbo w/ external wastegate. The only thing scaring me about that setup is the downpipe fabrication.

I thought I was doing it once, doing it right, I guess I wasn't.. or I got a lemon.

SP warranty = 1 yr

Well, 1 year is more than I have seen others give.
