Which motor?

I want to road race and/or auto-x in my supra and im looking to put around $3,000 to rebuilding the 7m or buying a 1j. I am only looking for about close to 400hp right now just want some peoples opinions on what motor would be better for that kinda racing.

I was thinking 7m because of the tq, but i have never road raced before so someone who has or is thanks in advance.

Well the 1jz is lighter and revs higher which could be effective in holding a gear longer through turns but with $3000 you won't have enough for 400hp, but if you sell your 7m stuff you may. 7m can be good but it'll need a lot of mods, mainly HG! but it will make 400hp cheaper and easier than a 1jz, however it is not as reliable.

at what rpm does a stock turbos make boost on a 1j?

and the 3,000 was just for the rebuild or buying the 1j, not for getting to 400hp that was just my bar.

The 7M has more tire spinning torque. Of course, I'm 7M for life. The 1Js top end power is better for road courses and freeway running.

Depends - personally, I like that I'm not having to shift quite as much to keep the 7M in its powerband. The 1JZ is a nicely balanced motor, with the stock twins, though!

Man I just beat the living hell out of my 7M the other day at the track and it is still running lol. but i think overall JZ would be better.

1jz sounds like it suit your application as long as your turbos last you'll be happy.

you are going road racing? 7m all the way. or get a jz with a single turbo maybe even a ct26 on it the stock twins are not hot on the 1j because well they are ceramic and from what i can tell the weak link on the 1jz swaps (and 2jz) with blown turbo seals being commonplace

an upgraded ct26 will rock
