I am planning on doing a fivespeed swap in about a week. I currently have an auto if you haven't guessed yet. I was wondering what flywheel, and clutch assembly you are running for street performance and some track use? Where did you buy it and what else do you recommend to make my swap go smooth? Thanks alot in advance for any help you may offer...........lol

Hey man I just did my clutch last weekend (spec stg3). Let me know when your planning on doing the swap and I'll come give you a hand while its fresh in my mind. I just got the factory flywheel resurface after hearing bad stories about daily driving a lightweight flywheel.

I've been very happy with my ACT "street" clutch. It's basically an organic disc with an upgraded pressure plate. Good for ~450ft/lbs as I recall. Spec is another good brand from what I've heard, no first hand experience with them yet.

The lightweight flywheel doesn't change the driving experience much. I've driven mine through some pretty rough bumper to bumper traffic with no problems. However Fidanza has been known to put out flywheels out of spec. Mine fit perfect and I've had no problems with it since I bought it about 3 years ago. There are a couple other companies making lightweight flywheels, can't recall the names...

Make sure you put lube on all the places pointed out by the TSRM. It's a pretty simple job, just requires some muscle or a tranny jack to raise and lower it safely.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Bishop92t again.........lol

Thanks Staticpat, I may take you up on that. I have a couple of neighbors here that are mechanics and may do it for me, or with me.............lol
Did you do a swap or just replace your clutch?

I just replaced the clutch, but the trans had to come out, so thats half the battle. My brother swapped a auto to 5spd in his 3000gt last year. I can ask him for any advice or problems he encountered. It's pretty straightforward from what I gathered.

I also have a hardcopy of the TSRM, very useful.

i like my spec stage 2. but on that note i'm about to put in my 3rd one. why? oil seals. FOR GOD'S SAKE REPLACE EVERY OIL SEAL YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON WHEN DOING A CLUTCH JOB. this includes, but is not limited to, RMS, TFMS, oil pan.

a leaky oil seal will ruin your new disk. i dont like pulling the trans, it's a pain in my ass. i suggest doing it once, and doing it right. NEW EVERYTHING.
