I was wondering where you guys that go to the drag strips shift at? I have not been to the track yet, and the last time I was there was with our 67 chevy drag car (10 sec 1/4 mile). So now that we sold the race car and its all street supras for me and my father, We are gonna start setting his car up to race. So whats a safe rev limit ? We dont want to kill the motor its still a street car that gets driven alot.

thanks..

I don't know about everyone else cause I've read on here a few times that they go to redline and shift. I shift somewhere between 5500-6000. I don't watch the tach very much, but I know that's where I'm shifting. I more or less just listen to it and feel when to shift. There's nothing like practice to find out how your car responds to each different rpm shifts. You will probably find your best shifting points are different than mine. Good luck.................lol

You also cannot post about racing without posting up video to prove it...............:biglaugh:

Well you'll dyno in fourth gear. At least you'll know where your power starts falling off, but I doubt that will help you on the track. You could probably get them to let you dyno in second and third as well. I know my dyno guy would let me if I wanted too, but like I said, I just listen to it. You can tell when you need to shift. Post up some times when you get a chance.................lol

Yea i agree with that i shift a little bit after the 5500 range just b/c someone told that with basic mods the 7m does not do well with winding out the gears to redline and also there is not a lot of power to be had in those ranges. Seems like a good way sooo far

That about where I shift too. I can just feel where the power starts to fall off. I doesn't feel like it's pulling hard at a certain point.

If you can not dyno to see what rpm your motor starts to fall off. Then try starting at 5k every gear. then bump it up 250 rpms on then next pass and so on, untill you find the shift point that yeilds the best results.

now i haven't dragged my bro's 5speed set up yet, and im runnin an auto.

but i have drivin many 5spd cars, and i usualy dont watch the tach, and wait for the power to start falling off.

the thing is, you want to shift at a high enough point so your pulling harder in the next gear. and not boggin or laggin so to say.

if you shift to late, you lose hp on the top end, and you lose torque for the next gear.. i noticed even with my auto car power seems to be leveling out around 6k. and it shifts at redline.. ;-(
