Wheel Rub

Hello, so when I bought my 1986.5 supra it had saggy shocks and springs so I swapped them out for Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs and KYB GR-2 shocks. I am using stock wheels and rubber. it lowered the front quite a bit and the back a little btw these were put on by a shop.

But the problem is a get wheel rub when i turn the wheels fully, such as backing out or a stall and the like. They rub on the inside of the tire on the wheel well its not to bad but still. Anyone knoy what the problem could be. Alignment? The reason why I would like to know is I need a set of winter tires but 225/50/16s will cost me 1100$ and I bought the car for a 1000. even if I by my tires from the states with shipping and taxes its still 850-900. Anybody know if there is a way I could go to a higher profile or maybe a less wide tire in a 55 or 60. or would that not change anything.

Thanks guys

for winter tires, go with a higher profile and less width. skinnier tires are better for bad weather. as for the rub, see if you can get under there and determine exactly where it is rubbing to figure out how to fix it.

I don't see how it could rub. I have Megan coilovers with 18x8 and 18x9, 235/40 and 265/35. You can look at my sig below. I don't rub at all. Not to mention that it is lowered a lot more than eibachs.

Like mentioned above, you might want to get up underneath there and take a look with the wheel from lock to lock. Something isn't right for you.

I'm going to put her on stands this weekend and have a look but I'm pretty sure it isnt wheel rub now.

When I back up and turn the wheel hard to the left(can't go anymore) I here a metal clunk noise and it has a metal kind-of rubbing noise after the initial clunk. It only does it sometimes and only when the wheel is turned fully.

Any ideas?

I have the metal clunk noise too and for me, I'm pretty sure its the turning stops.

I think it is supposed to have a rubber cover of some sort to keep it from being metal on metal and when the piece gets rubbed away or comes off, you get a great metal sound when it rubs.

That my idea anyway. :)

Check the lower control arm bushings for the rubbing/knocking. Willing to bet they are worn and that is causing the problem.

It is the turning stop caps, are missing or worn out. Get new ones from Toyota, or grease up the old ones, and check the difference. HTH
