I know a guy down the street from my buddy who has a set of Rota Grid racing wheels that he needs to get rid of. They are 17x7.5 +35 or 37 I don't know and have some nittos on them. I think they are 215, but they have pretty good tred left. He wants 400 for the whole set. Is this a good deal and will they fit I tried to look up some common sizes but I didn't 17x7.5 +35 as one of them. I would run on the nittos for a season of autocross, but whats the widest I could fit on that size wheel if I wanted to go bigger? I would like to eventually run 255s all around for racing.

I know that the tires are too small, but wouldn't I be able to fit 255s on a 7.5 in wide wheel. That is only a 1.25 inch stretch over each side of the wheel and stock has a 1inch stretch over each side. But if I will not have problems running 255s I'm going to get them cause that is a steal. And yeah I know the width seems small they came off a DSM.

Why would you only want to run a 255? Especially with that much of an overhang? The tires will look really wierd mounted on those rims. You're better off getting a propper set of rims that are atleast 9" wide in the rear and 8" wide in the front. With my rims and tires, the match is perfect and the sidewall is perfectly vertical. No bulging or stretching of the sidewall.

I've mounted 255's on a 7.5" rim too...not too terrible. If I were you and the rims were in good condition, I'd snatch them up.

EDIT: sorry, they were 245's, not 255's. My bad.

Now I have another deal. A set of Chevlon Racing 18" the front 18x9 and the rear 18x11 the front have 245s and the rear 295. He wants 600 and he'll throw in another 2 275s. These are off a mk3. I want to race on them, do you guys see any problems. Before the other wheels were too small and is this too big if i'm not going to be making much more than stock HP?

If you're around stock HP 275's will be more than you need. Have you looked into how these tires fit on the rim (especially the 275's) and what modifications the current owner of them has made to make them fit (in the rear specifically)? If you don't have to cut your inner fender well lip to prevent rubbing I'd be amazed considering I had to do that (well, I had the roll the fenders, so I still have a little bit of room to go if I cut the inner fender lip off). Also, tires that size are around $300+ each to replace since it's an 18" rim. If it were a 17" rim the price would drop to $200+ each to replace. Also, for drag racing you want a tall sidewall. With the 18" rim you really just have a band of rubber for a tire (about a 1" sidewall). On the 17's you can have a 3" sidewall (like my rear tires), which will help you to launch.

I don't drag race, or any other racing. that size is fine for me. Where are they? Ship to MI? If so need pics.

You do realize that tires are the only part of your car that make you stop and go right? Those rims are only 0.5" wider than stock. You can go to an 8.5" rim in the front and a 9.5" rim in the rear with no problem, depending on the offset of course. I wouldn't buy any rim less than 8" wide.
