Today driving around, moderate speeds, kinda slow...my oil pressure was at the lowest mark that's in the "normal" range as per the owners manual but i dont like how low that is compared to some other instances where its been higher.

i'm running 5w-30... i think this weekend i'll change my oil to the good castrol i bought, and put on a better WIX filter.....but i still would like to know if this is normal. i checked the level and its still about a quart over since i filled it with fresh after the BHG fix assembly.

on cold mornings my gauge shoots up to almost 80.... backs off by the time she's warm...

and then when its warm/hot its stays around the 2nd lowest line without a number by it, its the line just above the one that would mean no oil pressure. i dont run it hard because i'm not running name-brand oil and i have to change my oil...so i dont know how she reacts to hard running nor did i want to try - before i fix some issues... i'm a worry wart and the owners manual says its fine but considering how toyotas messed up some things i had to check.

and i was worried about a clog...but now that i think of it... maybe low pressure is good because pressure is resistance to flow...just as long as i have oil.

so i gave up thinking and guessing (because i dont really know whats best) and thought i'd ask what you guys commonly get when driving easy. i revved my engine and it pushed the needle up a little but it just didnt seem to do much today.

thanks.

so your gauge is the one with the lower numbers? mine has a line about a 3rd of the way up that is unmarked, then a 40, then a small one in between 40 and 80, then the 80 mark, then another halfway mark and 120 think.

mine was running around that lower unmarked one but i dont know how many psi that is.? 20 maybe?

Its normal for the gauge to be at almost 0psi. I wouldn't worry about a thing, because on startup, the engine being cold, is at an increased throttle to warm itself up IIRC. Gradually, when it starts to reach normal operating temperatures, the idle drops typically below 1,000 RPMs (Factory idle is about 700-750 RPMs)

I have the same oil pressure as you. Startup for me is about 40-45psi then drops to the mark above 0psi.

I know my oil pressure stabily rises the more I have my foot into the fuel inj.
It goes low the less or slower I go.

I don't think you have alot to worry about or I hope not atleast. I guess you should check the belly and see if you have a leak and hope for the best.

ok, thanks a lot guys :D

no leaks...its actually reading above full since i put extra in. sooo...i think i'm good.

i just have this natural thought that a gauge should read near the middle, and even after the owners manual told me its "normal" i wanted to check because on the temp gauge, normal goes up pretty damn high.... too high IMO...

so since i was pushin the limit i had to ask.

thanks again :)

i checked it friday when my car warms up and its idling its right above the 1 bar between 0 and 40 so im guessing its 20-25 at idle fully warmed up and 2500-3k is when it goes up to 40 and above ive never checked it at like 5k because i dont hold my car there long enough to look.

The desert is fun, cause there's lots of room to put the pedal to the metal. I've only taken it up to 142, but there was more pedal. I guess its best to just know there's a little more in there.

A/C works great ! Heater works great, too !

Some BIG mtns are just 40 min south, and I LOVE to blast those roads. Had a GREAT time last SAT. 78*, no wind, clear skies, and NO traffic. These new YOKOHAMA tires held those curves really well. New brakes made it even better (less heart strain)!!!:biglaugh:

Right on man.. I love that stretch of land. I would always pull over and cop zzzz's after a pit stop in flaggstaff. I used to take me 18 hours to drive from ark to flagg. I was always in the desert in 3 hours after that.
