Last night me some friends went out to look everyone, got lucky and they were just outside of my friends neighborhood. I parked next a Z32 300z to talk to him then i saw a Na MKiV that we see all the time then all of a sudden i see a mk3, i take off after him and get next to him. "Wanna race" i asked he said sure. So we went to the end of the street; i know streetracing is bad but this was just the spur of the moment; Line up, he starts to rev so do i, im looking at his fingers, not concentrating on the tach, well he gets to 1 and go so i slip the clutch a bit to much and the car doesnt go anywhere, 1st 2nd 3rd nothing just revs pretty much with alittle bit of movement. You could smell the clutch really well, from in the car with the windows done it was quite evident. Only thing that i could think of was that i got the clutch really hot. Ohh and after i "launched" the clutch pedal felt alot lighter than usual. Went to my friends house and sat around for probably 1.5hrs then. Had to go to my other friends house because we couldnt stay there. Got in the car and it was still at running temp after it was sitting for 1.5hrs in 50F. Got up this morning and came home, well 1st actually goes somewere but i feel like it still slips in 1st and when lightly boosting. Ohh and i have a Spec Stage 2 Kevlar clutch. So what did i do?

Cliffs:
went out and found another mk3
asked to race
lined up
watched his finger while not concentrating on my tach
slip clutch really bad
smelled like clutch really bad right after
after car cooled completely this morning car goes in 1st but feels like it slips alittle bit and under light boost.

Thats what happened when i toasted my clutch. I had an almost identicle situation........and i got the "smells like something burning" comment from the chic in the back seat. Few hundred dollars later a new clutch and no more problems.

If it gets some grip at lower RPM's with no boost and slips at higher rpm shifts or under boost its on it way out probably sooner than later.

if i need a new clutch then im screwed. I dont have $500 to spend on a clutch and i dont wanna do it my self in fear of terribly messing something up.

Clutch swap is pretty simple. Theres no wiring to EFF up. Just get your flywheel surfaced and dont go all gay on an ebay clutch and youre set. Biggest PITA about it is removing the starter to drop the trans. But thats not impossible with patience.

What are your mods? If its not ecessive amounts of power you could go with a stock-ish clutch to save money.

A performance on is much better though.

(im sure ya know this stuff)

I had him do a 15 psi pull to redline in 3rd and it didn't slip, so I'm 95% sure it's tire slip in first.
His mods are upgrade ct, lex afm, 550's, ssqv, downpipe, hks (quiet) catback, piggyback and a few other bits and pieces

i doubt thats the case. if hes losing power more than likely its his clutch, not because hes spinin.

I think that clutch you have in there is brand new. That is Ken's car right? Ken had put in a brand new clutch if I remember correctly

How do you figure this?

In lower gears there is much higher torque at the wheels and same (one could argue less) torque at the clutch.

In higher gears the wheels have much less torque and the clutch experiences the same (again one could argue more) torque.

Therefore if clutch is at fault you would expect the issue to manifest itself equally (again one could agrue more so) in all gears and since we all know that tire spin is far worse in lower gears (and I know his lsd is toast) we can surmise that the clutch is ok
