so when i was putting the main caps back on i tapped em in lightly and this little chunk of iron fell from god knows where on the floor. it looks like half of a rat poison pellet that was mangled on one end... i can get pictures if needed....

anybody got any ideas? im down to the bare block with the freeze plugs yanked already so im thinking it might have fallen out of there??? i couldnt see any defects.

Probably a leftover piece of the casting inside the block coolant passages. There is all sorts of crap in there on most 7m's.

I suspect one of the pins that is used to get the head in the right position... they are usually pretty mangled on one side after getting pounded out.

There's two of them, one at the front of the block and one at the back. The head gasket and head go over them.

Yeah...good call. Might want to check the block/head deck to be sure the other half is not still in the hole ;)

no thats not it..those are intact. its the same exact size as a rat poison pellet. only half of it.. i auctually thought it WAS a rat poison pellet until i threw it out of my way and it made an interesting noise when it hit the floor... i then found out it wasnt! lol pics will be up tonight when i get home from work. what sucks is the block is at the machine shop right now so i cant really check anything. i hope its nothing serious.

well that's what I figured but I swear it fell out of the engine... we already had the freeze plugs out so maybe old junk stuck in there?
