What's the shelf life on this Turbo?

I'm rebuilding my supra right now, getting all the gaskets tomorrow and im gonna seal it all up. I cant wait! One thing is making me worried though, inspecting the turbo I saw the intake turbines are pretty chipped. I've shimmed my waste gate and should get around 12psi. I'm just wondering if this will hold up. The exhaust side is just fine. I've spent most of my money on this rebuild and I just want to know if this can be over looked for a little longer. I cant wait to get my baby back on the road, but if its going to jeopardize everything I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer. Thanks everyone!

PS: It must be the angle that picture one was shot at, but it seems to look a lot worse in photo as opposed to real life
unless I choose to not see it lol

That will be a crap shoot. The chips will cause the compressor blades to be out of balance...at the rpm the turbo spins at, it would not surprise me if it grenades.

Damn. Before I knew about this I was running it at 10psi, and I was pretty hard on it. Guess I'm lucky...

What happens when this turbo "grenades"? I have an idea, and it's not very pretty....

I have the same problem on my ct-26, no shaft play, seals are all good, but i have some chipped blades, no doubt from the previous owner running it hard with no air box or filter. I plan on rebuilding or upgrading, but i really hope it doesnt blow itself up before I have the cash to do that...

I'll put it this way...I would not want to have my head in the engine bay if/when it does ;)

yeah my friend told me Turbonetics or someone like that rebuilt his 280's turbo for only 400 bucks. If I do end up having to rebuild it, it could end up being good. Might save up for the 57trim. It just lowered moral though, got my gaskets in the garage and everything is begging to be reassembled :( Time for a second job....

i was thinking, if say, the compressor wheel totally destroyed itself, and flew down the intake pipe in dozens of pieces, wouldnt the intercooler catch most, if not all of the ones large enough to cause harm to the engine? i dont know about the stock one, but i have a 24x13x3 IC, so i dont know...
