What's the round thingy to the right of the oil filter?

Hopefully I won't have to snap a pic for this but there's a round thingy in which a wire goes to it right next to the oil filter. It looks like it screws into the block but I'm not sure. Looks like i'm having some oil leakage from that area as well. Anyone know what i'm talking about?

Thats the pressure sender for the oil pressure gauge. Its just a pipe thread fitting. You can take it out, put some pipe thread sealant or teflon tape on there and screw it back in pretty snug.

Yeah, its the oil pressure sensor. try backing it out about a half a turn then go back in about 3/4 turn or maybe a tad bit more. It uses a 14mm wrench and the hex is on it inside between the canister and the threads. Dont try to tighten it like a bolt cause its a tapered pipe thread (1/8 BSP to be exact). just keep tightening a little bit at a time until it no longer leaks if the first step doesn't fix it.

No, dont use sealer on it. it is a dry seal type. if using a sealent, you risk it getting in the oil galley and it can destroy a bearing.

Thanks guys for the replies! Yeah I think it definetly should be replaced. My oil pressure gauge fluctuates quite a bit. Maybe some day. Expensive too. Got 46 bucks at prostreetonline. So many things need replacing.. lol.

eh id confirm that its bad before you just go replacing it for no reason.

im all for replacing old WEAR ITEMS regularly however this thing is not a wear item and should only be replaced when it fails. otherwise youre just throwing away your money.

if you think yours is bad, see the TSRM for how to test it.

Agreed: couldn't have said it better myself.

on top of that, if you are all gun-ho about buying a new one just for the hell of it or yours did actually test out bad, get one from Toyota. I have seen to many problems with aftermarket sends and not being calibrated correctly.

I believe he said oil leak and not function. I had to replace mine at one point due to a bad seal in the housing. Doesn't a seal consider a wear item? I deal with pumps and seals every day and I consider them a wear item.

EverythingFallsApart.. Be careful removing the sender if that thing is on there extremely tight. Use all possible technique to remove the part with out stripping the thread or break the part.
