whats the max. temp seen by the exhaust system?

Depends on where at in the exhuast system. I'll see 850C in the header. The further away it is from the head, the cooler it will be. It would be interesting to take temperature measurements at each foot starting from the turbo.

Not the turbo elbow. Normally in the exhaust manifold just before the turbo in the collector. It's mainly understood that post turbo temps have been quite significantly cooled down; too much so to know when its overheating.

it's usually put in the #6 exhaust runner. #6 gets the hottest readngs, so a lot of guys base their temps off of that particular runner.

if you really want to get involved - put a egt guage in each runner, and have six guages going down the right side of your dash.

Was at the PIMA air musuem in Tuscan week ago. The military stores and decomissions its aircraft there. They sell instruments from these aircraft in the Gift shop. They didnt have one then but they do get them the bar guages including turbine temperature. The B-52 had 8 engines so its temp guage would work great if you could figure out how to use it. I think the Vector used AC guages from the F15.
