When I went TDY to Guam, we had a typhoon that knocked down alot of coconuts from the trees. I collected many. I found alot of ways to open them, but none were as easy as my improvisation - the outer husk, I would slam onto the edge of a road guard rail. It would cleave right into the soft husk. Do this a few times, then slam it onto the rail and leave it there. Then, push and pull on it and it will peel the outer part away. Then you will have the hard inner brown shell surrounding the milk and meat. If the milk is out, breaking the rest is easy. Throw it or beat it on the ground!!! If you are worried about it getting "contaminated", put it in a heavy trashbag or two and swing it around and smash the ground or something. Then you can pick the contents out of the bag and chow down.
