I'm just wondering what everybody uses on their computer for media. I'd like something that plays audio and video well, but right now i'm using CyberLink Power DVD for my ripped movies and it works well, and i just havent found a music player i quite like...

some of my friends say they like iTunes.... the fact that its apple and well...apple, makes me weary. but i'm willing to try it i suppose.

I was just curious what you guys think is the best. i've used a few including WMP, Winamp, and some other odd ones but...well. i'll leave it to you.

oh and ripping mp3's is a nice option but if i have to i can just use a separate program. i'm mainly looking for a user-friendly interface that doesn't sound like turd.

Burning DVD's I use DVD X-Copy Platinum (bought it just before it was banned) burning CD's (music or files) I use Nero, easiest shit ever.

Guess my media player software is a little outdated, but it gets the job done ;). I do have iTunes, but I don't care much for it. Actually, I use Window's Media player to play music and I watch my videos with Real Player.

lol...ok lots i've never heard of. thanks for the ideas so far.

oh and i have a DVD decription program and a DVD/video compression program that work wonders and unless there's a seamless burn-everything program in ONE, i'm set with what i have.

I use DVD Decrptor and DVD Shrink. great combo ;)

The DVD X-COPY that I have makes an exact duplicate of the DVD, the only differences are they add a screen at the beginning letting the viewer know this is a copied dvd used only by the original buyer and for home use only, and the cd and case isn't the same. It retains all menus, chapters, features, everything. I like it ;)

is that all you like about it?

i'm not THAT worried i just dont like WMP's audio output. well its fine if you dont try and use their equalizer or special sound changers...with my integrated audio it doesn't work well. (i know thats part of my problem)

I make duplicates too. well techincally i dont but i can if i wanted to. I dont because I NEVER use DL disks because of their expense and there's the fact i can simply compress a movie more than 50 percent and retain virtually all the details keeps me using SL disks. sometimes i delete special features to get less compression, and i degrade menu qualities but they are all still available, just grainy sometimes. (i dont care about that at all) that way i have the most detail in the actual video. oh and i usually get rid of the copyright crap too, but if i don't it still gets rid of the mandatory viewing of the warnings so i can skip right to the title menu.

I use Itunes, but only cause I have 16k+ MP3s. and its a pain not having a player that will organize them like Itunes does. Having 2 gigs of ram helps.
For Movies/vids. V-Lan player. It rocks. It will play pretty much anything.
then my back ups are Winamp.

foobar? wow i've never seen such a basic player before... why do you like it?

in its default status, yea it is boring. But EVERYTHING is customizable. When I get home I'll show you a SS of how I have mine setup. But thats not why I like it, I like it because there is a large noticable difference in sound quality between it and winamp. Foobar + high qual sound card + high end speakers = bliss. My computer stereo sounds AMAZING.

nice. i edited my post BTW but i'm not sure it matters b/c i think you answered it anyway.

sounds cool though i look forward to seeing it. the website screenshots looked VERY bland though.

the only thing i like that i've heard about iTunes is the way it views album art and i guess it organizes things well.

i dont like winamp because there's always a temptation for me to mess with the window sizing for the perfect layout, ALWAYS! i'm a perfectionist and i can never decide how to place the fucking windows so they work nice and seamlessly. lol... i like ONE unit that doesnt come apart like legos. i loved winamp but i think back and i waisted SO much time just messing with the windows compared to not bothering with WMP because its one window. lol...oh boy.

I will admit to using iTunes on the mac...

admitting the use of iTunes is not as blasphemous as mentioning you use a mac.:nono:

lol....j/k

but i have to also admit that i cringed as i hit "download" on the iTunes page. then i threw up a little when i realized the download size is at least 10 times that of winamp....:aigo: :3d_frown:

but this doesnt mean i've settled on a media player. i'm just downloading a bunch and trying them all as they're recommended. lol...

LOL, I LOVE my mac, my PC is basically a single purpose gaming appliance. (allows me to keep the OS as free as possible of bloatware too!)

k here's a screenshot of mine:

check out their forums, some people come up with some seriously awesome layouts. I'm a little partial to foobar, a friend of mine in college helped write it, and did all the documentation :)
