I wanna do something to help my shifts react more smoothly... My third gear is getting a little tougher to get into... The other night I had it do something it never did before: It would NOT go into third at high rpm... I was racing my buddy who has a boosted Civic HB, the thing is really quick, but when I got to near red line in second, and went to shift into third, nothing! It was like hitting a wall... We laughed about it and ran again, same thing: 3rd was a brick wall for me... I dunno if I just didnt line it up right or what, but shit, if I had been racing someone other than a friend, that might have been an embarrassing situation... He recommended Syncromesh, says it worked wonders for the Honda... Anyone have any opinions? What should I try? I dont wanna pull the tranny and rebuild the syncros until Im ready to do a complete overhaul... I know this might be a band aid, but...

Anyway, input please...

Thanks,
Jake

So you think I should do a rear end diff oil change when I do my shifter change?
You might as well. It's just a pain in the ass to get it in there. I changed mine out yesterday and i got so mad because of the mess i was making trying to get it in there. Of course my friend who poked holes in the bottom of the container didn't help out my situation.

i'd do the tranny oil change and the differential change at the same time. you may as well, right? it should only take about an hour or so, at most.

that being said, right now i'm running mobile 1 synthetic 75w 90. i'll soon be switching to redline 75w90, as i have heard NOTHING but good about it. so, i'd go with the redline. :) i've even heard of it solving hard shifts and synchro problems. i hope it helps yours!

for some reason my tranny would always get extremely hot. the shifter would be hard to touch.

ran redline fluid in there, same deal. then i switched to mobil one and the problem went away. ive neve noticed any difference in shifting smoothness from different gear oils.

Thanks guys, seems everyone has good things to say about many different brands... I might have to spin the wheel...

THE WHEEL OF OILY LUBE! :D

As for the bushings, yeah, replaced about 1500 miles ago...

I used both redline mtl and mt90. The mt90 seemd to work much better on a car with a bad 3rd gear than the mtl did. I also used mobile 1 synthetic in the same car. It also did a better job than the mtl, not as good as the mt90 but they were close.

When draining and swapping fluid is there an issue with residual hanging out and contaminating the new goo? If soo is there a way to flush out the old to prep for the new?

the residual oil left in the transmission is such a menial amount compared to how much you're putting in, that it really makes no difference. just make sure you let it drain for a good 10-15 minutes.

when i first putin the manual i put in some 80w gbox oil for 1day so it got all the crap flowing again(box hadnt been used for number of yrs) and drained it and topped up with redline m90.Shifts a lot easier though still very notchy.just gotta work within the boundries i guess.1-2 is a slow change, cant get the tyre chirping shifts(dont really want to either) still hard to get into 1st though i go 3rd then to 1st and it usually slips in.

Im running some Redline Shockproof in my tranny. I think its 75w 90. I did change the diff fluid the same day also. Shifts a lot better than whatever was in there b4.
