So my transmission just went out. we pulled the tranny out and were going to put another tranny in when we saw that my 6 Puck south bend clutch was completely warn down on the pressure plate side.. the other side that is touches the fly wheel looked just fine.. Any idea what would cause one sided wear? Also what is a good clutch for 550hp? Im putting a 67mm billet turbo on the car and im shooting for around 550hp, so i need a clutch that can hold what im looking for.

Performance Clutches WEAR FAST.

I'm going to sayanother Southbend Clutch, ACT 6 Puck or Full Face with HD PP, or Driftlotion.

Contact Southbend and have it Repucked.

Ohh and Feramic is Fun but not so street fun. ;)

^Seems Like A Heavy Price IMO.

Talk to Rich @ SIP Racing and see if he can get you one.

If Rich can't Sean @ Titan. :)

Also avoid Solid Discs. Sprung or bust.

Learn to drive... you just put that thing in last year...

But seriously... Why would it wear on the pressure plate side but not the flywheel side?

clutch has been ordered, that price included over night shipping. I looked at other brands and most other brands were only rated to like 550ft lbs. I wanted a clutch with alittle more holding power than that. So i went with the ACT which is rated for 632ft lbs. talked with the owner of Trumotorsports here in Indy about what clutch to use, we talked about several different options and it came down to the ACT. It is the strongest clutch that ACT makes.

XD Pressure Plate? :(

I'd have went with a HD Pressure Plate and Feramic Disc.

You better bypass your clutch start switch and hope your trust bearings last.

Every time you press on the clutch, it has to pull on the crankshaft to disengage the clutch disc. All that force is transferred to the block via the thrust bearings. They're little 1/2 circles of metal and they're not that big, so there's a huge amount of force on them when the clutch pedal is pressed. The stronger the pressure plate is, the more pressure it takes to release it, and all that pressure is put onto the thrust bearings, which wears them out more quickly.

Basically, the heavier duty the pressure plate, the harder it is on your crank and thrust bearings.

Thanks ToyotaNos.

I can't stress enough you need to bypass your clutch switch and start your car without the clutch depressed.

I personally would just go with the HD Pressure Plate if it isn't shipped out yet, and still have the clutch switch bypass.

Crankwalk isn't a fun fix.

My bud Craig (SupraKid24) didn't run the RPS3200 long and this is what happened. :(

(this was also a rebuilt motor.)

Hope its the sprung clutch.. I just put in the ACT 6 puck clutch kit. The disc is unsprung, it's a bitch to drive with! It is rated for 632ft lbs. also. I didn't realize it was unsprung till i got it,I called back and they don't even have the sprung disc in stock it was back ordered. I didn't feel like waiting a month to get it so i just put in the one i recieved.

Ohh

2600 should be fine!

3200 is where you want to cry.

Take a look at the Main Cap Marked 4.

See how on one side facing away has no thrust bearing and the other side it has moved about 45 degrees.
