I have an opportunity to purchase an 89 turbo hardtop. Problem is I think he is asking too much.. Looked the car over fairly well yesterday but couldnt get under the car. Odometer reads 160 ,ish.
The good: Decent body. Only opne minor dent on left fender. Minimal paint fade for being a red car, no obvious rust. Engine hasnt been hacked away by half thought out mods. Everything appears to be on the car as it ;eft the factory. Leather interior in fair condition considering mileage. Front seats do have rips and steering wheel is worn.
The bad: Oil leaks from everywhere oil could leak. Has very obvious signs of blow-by. No water in radiator, couldnt recall last time water level was checked. Took a solid 20 seconds of cranking to catch and finaly start. Intake hose cracked very badly in usual places. Clutch system is leaking from somewhere down low. Very strong odor of oil/antifreeze from exhaust while running. Minimal smoking, as in slight puff when accelerator hit. Dash is cracked beyond repair. Didnt attepmt to drive the car but judging by his responses to questions and looking at the tires I would say it needs considerable suspension work as well.
To me there is a buildable car here but not much else. He was very surprised when I walked out to mine and was able to start it before counting to 3. Just wondering what some of you thought the car would be worth. I know what I think it is worth but at the same time I dont want to low ball the guy.
