What if my mk3 jdm -50k 7mge were to ::bhg:: big time on me again....well first time for the engine.... but 2nd or 3rd time for the body.... Since i trust most of you Supra savy GODs:love:.... i would love to read your opinions about it.

should i go the replace all hg's route and overhaul the 'young' engine or should i go with 7mgte, 1jz, 1.5jz, 2jz...etc....

post your opinion and reason why?

or just junk the car and get something else altogether???

my reason for asking this question is that I am very afraid of finally getting my Diana running and then ::bhg:: and putting myself in the big money pit...

and seeming to never be able to get something decent running... well just a big hole in my little wallet.

Thanks for reading and posting if you do.... oh and post some pics if you wish also.

Build it correctly and it won't BHG. You have to spend some money to save yourself money in the long run. Honestly, if you can't handle refreshing the engine now, you probably shouldn't do any crazy swaps.

If it only has 50k on it no need to overhaul, just replace the HG and put some ARP bolts or studs on it. If you are pulling the engine out to do this might as well replace all the rest of the seals as they are probably hard and wills start leaking soon enough.

If you are just now putting the engine in, re-torque the head and you should be able avoid the issue.

If you get another BHG and you want to keep your motor. Replace all the recommended parts and send your head to th machine shop. If you have the time and money and want more power, get the 7mgte. Then your going to have to replace the hg on that motor. The turbo swap is easy, there is alot of stuff on the forums on the swap.

When i got my JDM motor in i retorqued the headbolts to 72ftlbs. 4k later i got a BHG. Now i put in a new oem HG(didnt feel like stripping the motor down completely to get the head and block machined) with ARP studs. We'll see how it goes this time.
I think the 7m is a good engine and has a LOT of potential if you know to to take care of it. If it ever need a rebuild i would get everything set up for a MGH and studs and then you would pretty much never have to worry about BHGs again.

You would be better off fixing or rebuilding what you've got. Swaps are very very expensive, time consuming, and cost way more than you think when you're planning it out. Good luck, Jay

Make sure to deck the block and you'll never have a problem, I had two bhg jobs before i figgered it out, now i routinely float the valves with no bhg

if you wanna get that shit back on the road ASAP, swap in a JDM 7MGE, and yank a decent one from a junk yard and build it on the side, once it's ready, drop it in and sell the JDM...

You guys have to realize that JDM motors are junkyard motors. There's no reason to get a JDM version of something that was readily avilable here.

But since you have the motor, look at what you want to do with the car, what budget you have, what you can do yourself and how much everything else is going to cost. With any BHG or even any time the head comes off, I would at least send it to the machine shop to have them check. The block is a lot less likely to warp depending on conditions and can be checked with a proper straightedge and feeler gauges if you know what you're doing. If it's out of spec or looks like it, then you would need to resurface that as well.

But on lower power builds, a stock HG and properly torqued ARP studs will go a long way. As will proper maintenance and replacing the right parts when you do it. Spend the money and fix it right the first time so you won't have to deal with it later.

And even if you get another junkyard or JDM junkyard motor, I would redo the head gasket, not just a retorque especially when you don't know anything about the motor, except the "claimed" mileage. Do it right, don't cut corners and you can have a reliable motor.

This has been discussed quite a few times, and the answer is always the same... it all depends on your goals for the car... As well as how much time and money you can realistically afford to drop into a 20 year old car.
