What work should I have done to my block?

You might have noticed my previous post.. I aim to acheive a RELIABLE 400hp, possibly less if you think I am aiming too high for super dependability?

I've owned a few supras and its time to do the job right for once.

I've decided to start by rebuilding a block. I'll do the head later.
I have 2 or 3 blocks to choose from, and I believe I have decided to use the 92 block.
Its my understanding that the 92 block has a better counterweighted crank than the previous years. I also heard that the 92's had a second oil warning sensor for a warning light separate from the regular oil pressure gauge. Does anyone have details to this?
Anyway, those are my reasons for choosing this block...

This particular block was removed with a minor rodknock at about 140k...
I want to take it to an engine/machine shop to have it looked at to see if it is a good candidate for a rebuild. Then possibly have them do whatever needs to be done. But having never really done internal engine work before, I don't know what to have them do to it ontop of what they would normally do. Could someone give me some very specific details to what I should have done to my block? I want it good as new, or better, but I don't want to bore out the cylinders more and I want to keep it stock internals for the most part unless you guys highly recommend something otherwise.

Get it mic'd, decked, bored, honed, spec'd, balanced, deburred, tanked, re-plugged, and re-bushed. Glad I could help :icon_bigg

Honestly, I know tons about these cars etc... but I really havent a clue what all those terms are. Any chance to get them explained in more detail with whatever measurements or specifics that I could give to my engine shop? Also what parts will I need new? Do I need new pistons? Anything that I should order now?.. I know I will need a new oil pump.. just for preventative. Im not running off an unlimited budget, but I do want it done right. Also any idea what it all should cost me?

Ahahaha I just wanted to see your reaction, not as funny as i hoped :icon_razz . I just answered a build-up howto thread a few down, check it out, or actually I'll link to it in a sec, this guy is doing same as you, stock rebuild and it's got good info in it.

I couldn't find it, so I'll just tell ya myself again.
If you're doing a stock re-build, you will most likely need:
- full gasket set
- oil pump
- water pump
- new piston rings and possible pistons aswell, either toyota or ebay
- all new bearings
- headbolts, use ARP tho
- random bolts throughout engine
- for machining, have the machinist check the cylinder walls for pitting, and if they need it he will suggest overboring to maybe 20 over, or in extreme cases 40 over, and you will need to order the pistons accordingly.
- other machine work: deck the head if it's not flat, possibly bore the cylinders, hot tank it to clean, have him press new accessory shaft bearings in (2) and freezeplugs, hone cylinder walls, shave head to make smooth and flat.
- replace the oil seals in the head (also known as valve stem seals)
- check valve lash, if it's not within stock tollerances then new shims are required for propper function.

Anyone else feel free to add, I can't think of all and i know I'm missing stuff.

^^^ Ya I suppose that couldn't hurt :biglaugh:
If it's for a stock car tho no need for the extra expense, but it sure owuld be good to do it now than have to re-do it later due to the power being too much for a stocker. Good point miggles.
