I'm curious to know what all is out there. I've been searching on one from J and S electronics that a friend of mine has. It's called a safeguard and I'm thinking about getting one of them. I can't really tune my car to it's full potential without know when I hit knock. Please let me know what you're using so I can do some research on it. Thanks, Jay

My PLX-R500 has a pretty neat knock detection set up. It also has a audible headphone jack to listen if any knocking is occurring.

Edit:

Actually, the neat part is that I can hook up headphones and listen. Besides that, I guess it's pretty basic ;)

Keep in mind,

Even the MoTeC SKM has to be TUNED to YOUR motor.

The General knock detection is just that. General.

The MoTeC can be used general but more importantly, it is configured for YOUR engine specific knock signature. The process is complicated and time consuming so you will need someone like John Reed to tune that sucker.

I ended up going with just a gauge that shows knock, but doesn't do anything about it. I'm going to tune it on the safe side and not push the envelope too much. I'm going to also try and figure out a way to tie it into my Stinger with one of the auxillaries so that I can get it to retard the timing if detected. The gauge I've ordered is just so I can tune it a little better and have a little peace of mind. Thanks for the replies.

The thing I find so attractive about the MoTeC system is it only listens to each cylinder for an 10 degree range after TDC on the power stroke so ignores all of the background noise, you actually tune it for the precise range of knock noise on the dyno then it can trim cylinders if some are prone to knock.

You guys and your motec..................It does sound like a great concept though. Unfortunately I don't have motec. I do have some 5v auxillary outputs on the Stinger and I think I can get it to read knock as well. I'm going to try and if it doesn't work, then I'm not out anything.. I've already ordered my knock gauge so I'll have it either way.

I have two of those, but they're not as good as they used to be. I think they're out of warranty as well.
