What to do with my 7M?

Not long ago right before the day of my 18th birthday my 88 Supra NA ended up dying (the main bearings went out on me). To say the very least the engine is gone, it would cost me just as much for a rebuild of that engine as it would for a whole new engine (going to go 1JZ for the new year). I haven't gotten the engine out of the car just yet, I have to move it to my buddies place where he has a garage and all of that (I will have it out probably during winter-time, like January-February). But my question is this, what the hell to do with a 7M that is pretty much out of commission? Is it best to scrap it, or is there a place that likes to pay some money for the block? Or to just part it out? The car was in GREAT condition... which is why I am going to sink more money into the car. What parts from a 7M hold some value? I just would like to hear some opinions from the community... the basic way to approach this would be to tell me what you would do if you were in my position... I am sitting on a Red 88 Supra (Targa) with an auto, and I will receive money at the first of the year to do a swap with (like 4 grand) Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance for advice.

u can make money off each part if its in good condition, but head/ block is where you'll get more money
u can sell all the other small things here, locally or ebay

ppl here usually put it around 300-400 that ive seen...depending on condition
let a machinist/mech tell you if its warped, cracked etc.

how many miles are on it?

The engine made it clear to 170,000, and ran healthy, I know there isn't any cracks or anything like that... I had the whole car serviced when I first got it, and everything checked right to spec. 300 to 400! nice... never thought to be able to see that much out of it.. around here stuff like that sells for way too cheap (I go to a tech school and auto parts are common here, lots of junkyards, etc). Thanks for the input again.

part out ftmfw.

seriously think about going 7m vs 1j, though.
I know I could use the wonderful search button for this, but I don't feel that bad since you gave the advice to go with a 7M, how much could be saved from going with a 7M compared to the 1JZ? Or is it not how much you can save, but how much power you can gain? I know single turbo is the way to go, but I was discussing it with one of my teachers and he said the way to go would be a twin turbo setup with one big turbo, and one smaller turbo to spool up fast for acceleration, then have the bigger one for the top end power... I will definetely part out the car, I was just looking through the classified and all the little things sold could rack up to some serious cash, and since I am taking the engine out to begin with it isn't like I wouldn't be doing the work to begin with. Thanks for the input. Brainstorming this all out before I do anything really helps me out... gives me the opportunity to get the most out of my car.

yeah, probably. there are different opinions on what i hear are TOTALLY different engines. its been debated a lot too... great thing to search for.

but i say, if you want a 1jz...go for it. there are pleanty of people that have done it, and they have reasons and can give you feedback if you have doubts. there's even a thread about WHY people went 1jz....full of good stuff.

i would personally because i hear they are bulletproof and i could get one and NOT worry about a BHG...ever. at this point i want a nice quick car with no reliability issues...and the 7m has a few. not to say the 1jz doesnt...i just have heard less (probably because i havent looked into it much...but the fact i hear it called "bulletproof" makes me want one)

**COUGH** CRANKWALK **COUGH**

BHG are ralatively cheap to fix compared to that little crank issue...and if done properly...they are very reliable.

Do your research and pick what you want. Nobody but you can make that decision. At least then you will have made an informed decision and you will be happy with it.

Lets not turn this thread into a 1J vs. 7M thread...we have 300,000 too many of those.

Crankwalk happens because of single plate clutches with high clamping force on startup. bypass the clutch switch in the ignition and the issue is solved.

nice try though, whoever brought that up.

oh, and what to do with your 7M? put it in the trash, it's useless.*

for those who can't see through the sarcasm, crankwalk on a 1jz isn't common.
