IIRC EGTs go up if you are rich or lean and cool down at a good combination. I'm not 100% on that but thats what I remember reading for some reason.

However, do you not trust your wideband? I would tune with that pretty much solely since tuning EGRs is kind of like an oldschool replacement for the then rediculously expensive WB kits.

yeah i know something, you dont tune by EGT.

that said, i was running around 1550max which SHOULD have been safe, but my failing fuel pump still caused me to detonate and blow a HG.

EGTs should be used as a WARNING that you are at the meltdown level, you dont tune by it.

they won't be ballin for long. sorry man.. there is no way to tune on egt alone. its not possible to determine exact fuel ratio by egt.

EGTs are such a PITA to install... you have to take the turbo off, and the manifold off, and tap it, and everthing. blah. just get a wideband, save the egt for your rebuild.

still new to 4 strokes, but I"ll be tuning my supra same as i do those.. a/f first, timing or boost changes raising temps until i max out at 1400F... 1450 max on 93 octane as far as i am concerned. I dont see you needing it unless you're gonna go big hp, like 500 and up. Had egt's on the 2 strokes and will not bother on the supra, but i won't be going more than 14psi boost either.

i have my egt probe right on the #6 runner and never seen it go higher then just over 1500deg f. if it ever hits 1600(which is the max on the gauge btw) ill shut down imediatly. i really only look at it if making long pulls anyhow like on the interstate or a long bridge. usually short bursts around town it reacts a lil too slow. id stick with the wideband myself if i were you.
