87 and 88 have the 3 spokes with Cruise Control buttons at the bottom of the Steering wheel spoke.
ONLY 89 has the three spokes with Cruise Control buttons on 2 top spokes.
90, 91 and 92 have the 4 spoke without Cruise Control buttons (Its located behind the steering wheel on a separate arm) and there is an air bag for these model years.
I personally like the 89 wheel the most out of all of them.
Hope that helps..

Yep, in the us we only got the 89 wheel for one year. Other parts of the world where airbags weren't introduced until later had it longer.

So disappointing too. Its by far the best looking U.S. factory wheel. I wish I wouldve swapped mine with the ugly 88 before I sold it.

Only two ugly parts on a pre89 are the steering wheel and the tails :sarcasm:

How hard are they to swap because mine has a 87 sticker on it but everything else on it is a 89 including the steering wheel?

close... but the cruise control on/off is on the steering wheel on the 89+ and it's on the dash on the pre-89's.

Jeff Lange did a writeup on how to properly do the conversion.

Its basically a universal Toyota hub I hear. I've heard a newer 7th gen Celica (00-05) wheel bolts right up. Let me find the pic.

As for cruise control, I'll stick with a steady foot. CC is convenient, but people either dont use it or set it at completely different speeds. I can never use it for long before running into traffic.

Indeed, I'm doing the swap to the 89 wheel right now from my 88. Here's the link to said writeup: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60

I decided to forgo the custom wiring and just swap out the combination unit for an 89+ unit instead as mine was busted anyway.

the 89 does look alot better i think if the 90+ wasnt so big and bulky in the middle it would look better kinda like the (i think) jdm jza70 steering wheel? but not so flat.
