Looking into buying a Celica off my dads-friends-sister.

1990 Celica GT (FWD=GT?)

Cons:
Huge hole in block
Needs new engine.
Front wheel drive

Pros:
Clean blue interior
Sound system ($500 supposedly)
Clean white paint with pink flames!
5-speed
Sun roof
Clean body

I plan on making it into a half-trac.

She has offered to allow me to make payents and was thinking of getting around $1,000 for it. After a little searching on the celica forums I've seen the prices on these jump anywhere from $300-$1200.

I think I may make an offer of around $800 and sell all the parts I dont need. I intend to gut the car and replace just about everything, so a total part out.

Not much, All Celicas are FWD except the GT-4(Read Alltrac)

The model you really want is the GT-S, 3S-GE powered. But If you are doing an engine swap, I don't see how this wouldn't be feasible.

I concur with gts... The car is worth maybe a couple grand in good shape with low miles, but it has a blown engine (and is in need of new paint)... A $500 "sound system" is shit, and you can never expect to get anything out of sound "upgrades" anyways...

$500 max... (hell, I sold my '93 GT with 46K on the engine and 190K on the body, ran PERFECTLY but body had a couple dents for only $1500).

Fixed:evil2:

besides, I think the 5S-FE came in most of the US cars. the 3S-GE was available for the Canadians and I think some of the earlier US cars. We weren't that privaleged. He could always turn it into a 5S-GTE. :evil2:

The 5S-FE is a bullet-proof engine; probably one of the best quality engines Toyota has manufactured as far as pure durability... Unfortunately you'd never get a ton of power out of it if that's what you're seeking...

The 3S-GTE would be the proper swap if sticking to "tradition", however other options are out there as well...

As for buying that particular car, I definitely think you can do better...
