What parts will a MAFT-PRO eliminate the need for?

I know the MAFT-PRO will eliminate the need for the AFM, and does more than just that. I have read bits and pieces about it, and I'm somewhat intrigued. I will someday search the information if motivated. I just upgraded my car to the Lexus/550 set up, so I don't NEED the MAFT-PRO. I was just wondering the other day what all it really does. I know you can get a boost sensor or something of the sort. Does it eliminate the need for a boost gauge only, or does it also function as a boost controller? Are there any other parts that I could eliminate if I went with this?

I'm getting a lil old, and my reading comprehension is not real good anymore unless I find what I'm looking for quickly. When I have searched, I get tired of reading every thread that mentions the thing long before I answer my question. If I know it's really that worth while, maybe I'll stick with it longer

MAF Translator (hence the MAFT in the MAFT Pro) OR MAF/AFM eliminator, boost controller, timing controller, fuel controller.

CRE ive actually been meaning to ask you about your NA maft pro setup, I was considering trying to run it on my AE86 since the 16V 4age uses a flapper style AFM. Anything that you can see that could keep it from working?

Not really, as long as the signal is scaled the same way as the 7M's VAF you can adjust for differences in the MAFT Pro's tuning. Feel free to PM me with any more questions.

EDIT: ForcedTorque, If you run the MAFT Pro in Speed/Density you can remove the AFM and run boost control. A MAP sensor (used in the Speed/Density setup) is required for boost control. So, you can dump the Lex, tune the fuel better (see: more powah), control the boost to suit your needs. I don't recommend the MAFT Pro's display for use as a sole display for AFR or boost levels (too diffiecult for most to read on the fly), but it can display that info.

You can also log your runs with a laptop and tune accordingly. Very happy with mine and have just started to get into all of the things you can do with it.

You can also ditch the o2 sensor after you get it set up, and run off the part throttle tracking....set it up for a lean 16:1 cruise and get some great mileage. I LOVE the WOT tracking, just dial in the a/f ratio you want at each rpm and it does the rest.

WOT tracking is great. My N/A had problems with the removal of the stock O2 sensor though.... might be specific to my car though.

So I could conceivably sell off my:

1. Lexus
2. Boost Controller
3. AFC-NEO
4. Wideband

And I'd be able to do better tracking, and have better timing control with a cleaner interior and engine bay to boot?

Now ya see.......That's the inspiration I was looking for. I will be doing a lot more research on this now.

Thanks guys for all of the responses!

No you still need the wideband. The MAFTPRO wiring includes wiring it into the wideband output so you can log the AFRs on a PC and tune accordingly.

You can also keep your boost controller, MAFTPRO does have an optional boost controller unit that has lots of settings to play with on Tuner Pro but again, its optional.

PM Drjonez for more info or search.

You need the wideband for the setup and tuning, but you could remove it once you've got the tuning done and let the ECU maintain cruise AFRs if you don't want to use the MAFT Pro's Part Throttle Tracking or the WOT Tracking.

My thoughts Scott....buy the whole setup with boost controller, but leave your current boost controller now until you have everything else figured out. I like having the pro's BC now, but learning the tune and the boost controller at once I don't recommend...it has a lot more features than my AVCR, I wasnt a fan at first, but I love the all integrated setup for logging and tuning now. I have to re-learn some stuff as I haven't played with mine in a while.

Also....you most definitely want to keep your wideband!!!! Your cheating yourself if you run without it.

Last but not least...plan on spending some time with the book.....takes some time to learn it, but well worth it.

So in reality its almost cheaper to go MAFT-PRO then Lex AFM ?

Yes and no. The shorter answer is no. A junkyard housing will do.

A replica is under $200.

But it costs more to tune it good with something like E-man, and from what I have read, MAFt-Pro is much more flexible.

When considering selling the Boost controller and Wideband, I was definitely thinking Dyno Tuning. The Dyno would have the wideband, and it sounded like once the A/R's were set, the wideband wasn't much needed after that.

I prefer to run off the WOT tracking using the actual tune as a backup and for p/t driving....I love the WOT tracking and it won't work without it(wideband). My personal favorite feature on the pro. You tell it 11.5 a/f @xxxx rpm...it's 11.5 on the dot.

Jay don't get me wrong I loved the avc-r...It took me a while to get over giving it up.
