What is this blown head gasket thing I hear about? And Poll.

Of course I personally have never had one of course, I don't actually even know what one is really. I think they might be a myth in fact. I think air cooled beetles get them alot if I'm not mistaken!:icon_razz

I'm curious to know how many people here have owned their cars for a decent period of time, say 4 years and over and have never not once ever had a BHG, whatever it may be?

How long did you go before experiencing your first mythical BHG and did the majority of them happen only after upping the power?

Mine lasted 2 and a half years before getting one thanks to a dodgy workshop.

Would have lasted years longer if I didn't take it to that shop :nono:

1st car came with one and blew a jdm motor cuz i never re-torqued(n/a). and my second car has almost 45k with a fel pro and no probs.

It did it twice while in posesession of previous owners. (Have paperwork)

I say "yet to blow" because my vavle seats carboned up and I had to take the head off before i got that dreaded BHG...

oddly enough the only supra out of the four that ive owned that blew the hg, was my first one and it was a non turbo, it had 93,000 km on it and i drove it until it blew at 99,000 close to a year later,,, i have never had a gte blow on me yet,,,,lol ...yet......

0 - My car came to me with a BHG!
my 7m-ge came with a new HG but i found coolant in the oil. I was told it had rod knock as well. I never even started it or tried I just ripped it out, beat it with a breaker bar, set it on fire, scraped it out, and replaced it with a 1jz.

I don't know if it was blown, but it did get into the other half of the temp gauge keeping up with a blown mustang coming back from a Toronto meet about 10 or 12 years ago. Once we saw 150 on the speedo the temp guage decided to climb pretty quick.

After that, the car never ever got hot again. Sure it had that 'waterfall behind the dash' sound and a bubble every 3 seconds in the overflow, but never again did that car get any hotter than where it normal runs on the guage.

Meh.. I dunno.

Stock car, stock engine, stock everything, well maintained, 120,000kms.

Replaced with HKS MHG, no problems since then, but only about 40,000kms since then. The BHG happened I think about 2 years after getting the car, perhaps 3. Got the car from previous owner with 96,000kms.
