tip: dont kill time by making shit threads.
Rev matching: used in downshifting, before letting out the clutch while going into a lower gear tap the throttle to bring the engine to the same rpms it will be spinning at when put into that lower gear. IE reving the engine up a little when dropping back down to 2nd gear while going 40mph instead of doing a clutch drop at 40mph into 2nd gear with your engine at 700 rpm.
Also when you screw up your clutch pedal, fluid source, cylinder and need to shift without the clutch pedal. Rev up to higher rpm, pull tranny out of gear and rev engine to proper rpm it should be at to go into synchronization with vehicle speed in certain gear then slide gear in.

Jebus explained it pretty good. In a nutshell matching engine speed to transmission speed allows for a smoother transition when downshifting. Proper heel/toe action (I use more of big toe/little toe style) and a little practice and its not hard but a novice might not want to try this in traffic or you are libel to get the side of your foot caught behind the brake pedal and cause an accident.
