So I'm changing my plug wires cause the number 6 broke of course, and I take them out, I notice oil dripping off number 5&6 wires. So I wipe them off and investigate. They are full of oil. So my question is I think its the valve covers leking but I'm not sure If its not somthing else please advise. Thanks.

when you put new cam cover seals in, make sure you also replace the bolts and seals (I prefer socket head cap screws, but any proper bolt will work, I think the size is M6 35mm long) and make sure to put sealant at the front of the covers by the cam gears. doing both should prevent future leaks.

Ok oil cooler is not hooked up. No need to buy a turkey baster have a bunch of them for some odd reason. new bolts I shall get tomorrow. Inch pounds sounds like I just snug them I guess correct me if I'm wrong. And can't I just put sealant on the whole seal? or will that make it leak. Oh and tighten them every oil change,(what else should I do every oil change besides that?), and thanks for the input.

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
Inch pounds means you buy a tool that will do the job. Something like a Utica TS-30, which is what I use. You can often find them cheap on ebay. If not any inch pound torque wrench of the proper range along with a bit set will do.

And I was kidding about the oil cooler. Loss of viscosity and oxidation (varnishing) aside too hot oil will hasten the death of every gasket and seal it comes into contact with. Lip seals, valve cover gaskets, valve stem seals, etc. Want leaks? Want the engine to burn oil? How about grooved shafts? Put the cooler back on...

The stock oil cooler is gone sombody took it off before I had puchased the car, I have been looking for a aftermarket one of good calibur any recomendations? At least I found out where my oil was going I did some more looking around and the back side of the head and the tranny housing is covered in it. good thing I decided to change the wires and I only got 700 miles on the rebuild. Tomorrow I'm going to check all my gaskets thought this is the only leak I'm sure it has. Hopefully I get a job soon I got an interview at autozone thursday wish me luck. Hey hvyman what is the no3 cover the one in the middle? I'll check back when I get up in the am. Thanks again guys lifesavers.

If you buy new seals no need for fipg except where the tsrm says so. Like on the valve cover gaskets you want a little bit on the corners in the front on the first cam cap. Not much is needed of fipg on the 7m other than the valve covers in the front, the 2 spots for the rear timing cover, and the oil pan.

As long as the surface is good and you have a good gasket you do not need rtv. Like a water pump. Good pump stock gasket no rtv and it will hold and not look ugly.

People swear by rtv and i have never once needed it in any situation other than what it says in the book ever.

Has sealer on it from the factory, surfaces need to be spotlessly clean if you expect a seal.

Tq is Key to making 7M Cam Covers seal, it has to be even as they're very long covers.

On the entire seal or just in the corners?

On my old n/a i never had a problem with new stock gaskets other than the bolts coming lose. On my turbo motor i have a problem with the hex bolts filling the spark plug galley. Could be the valve cover gaskets tho took there hard but the bolts are tight and they were rtved cause lack of funds. Might be both. But no time or money right now to find out.

Either way its not right and im pretty sure its the hex bolts cause the valve cover used to be loose more at the middle and i would only get the first 2 and last 2 spark plugs filled up. and the middle 2 valve cover bolts were always the loosest and never any oil in there.
