Say I put a newer N/A motor 30-50K in my turbo car and swaped the intake manifold, exhaust manifold and put the turbo on that motor? The higher compression and the N/A cams would add a good deal of power, probably in the range of about 40 HP? In my opinion Toyota plays it safe with the low compression pistons but I think they go too far. Stock boost is about 6 PSI, I can run 20 and still no det so I would imagine with N/A compression I could get away with the turbo on high octain as long as I dident go crazy on the boost. Also N/A motors with low miles go for half the price of used turbo motors!!!! What do you guys think?? I think it could work...

Yeah, It can be done, in fact, it's done all the time. You are right about detonation, get a boost controller. That will keep you out of trouble. Also, if you can put your hands on turbo ECU, wiring harness, CPS, and ignition coils you'll get alot more power out of your motor. Watch the headgasket or better yet get a metal one or at least replace your old one with a new OEM and better head studs.

IF you are turbo-ing a 7MGE, you will need a wideband o2 and an SAFCII to be safe. Boost controller, yes, I suppose. But more importantly, WBo2 and SAFC.
Also, 550cc injectors would be smart, and do a real NA-T swap as suprabad mentioned by getting all the turbo electronics. Get a Lexus AFM and you'll be good to go.

To recap:
7MGTE electronics, wire harness
Lexus V8 AFM
550cc injectors
SAFCII
WBo2
Boost Controller (electronic if possible, to prevent spikes)
Cometic MHG + ARP's <if you decide to go with a MBC :icon_lol:

I dont think you guys understand.... I have a turbo car with a turbo motor, I wanna put a N/A motor with turbo parts because I can get low miles N/A motor for cheap plus the N/A motor has higher compression pistons and better cams so it would make more power

Get new forged pistons and have them coated on the skirts ( for heat) since the N/A block has no oil squirters. ( thats probably what I will do on my new motor...its going to be an N/A block with coated internals.)

The Group-A racing 7m's were hand picked from the production line.....they were all N/A blocks...no squirters...just custom Mahle pistons....

they lasted didnt they?

-Jonathan

PS: I just wrote MAHLE on ordering some pistons.

How much more power would the N/A block and cams make over the turbo block? Also what elce would go into the block swap besides the exhaust manifold, intake manifold, intake pipe/AFS and turbo? My car is a turbo body so its already set up for everything but when I get the motor is there anything elce I have to switch that im not thinking of?

Nobodys mentioned this, but from my reading on the na-t swap u may have to drill and tap a turbo oil return in you n/a oil pan.
If you have the motor apart it's better to drill the block as it gives you a higher Oil drain so less chance of a flooded smokey turbo.

I can just use my turbo oil pan for the turbo oil but what about the coolant lines that run into the turbo??? Can someone be specific on exactly what needs to be changed besides exhaust manifold, intake manifold,A/F intake and turbo?? **** I have a higher miles turbo motor w car with blown out oil seals and warped valves, good turbo and like new N/A motor with very low miles in great shape **** I wanna make the N/A a turbo motor I need to know what needs to be changed on the motor

Pretty much just change the block to an N/A block and head the N/A has a better intake cam, there pretty much identicle other then the extra knock sensor in the turbo. But to me it sounds like your trying to take the cheap way out of fixing your car. And MKIIIs dont like that very well.

Oh, I have a feeling he will, Ian.
Porterz: Go for it, swap it out already. We've told you all you need to know. All the info that is necessary has been noted. The blocks are not different other than a turbo oil drain fitting, you should be fine.

PSSST, supradan22, it's spelled swapping ;)
also, while I'm at it, it's also spelled coming
