Just wondering what would happen if my TEMS went bad and was still on the Sport selection. My car is shaking a little at excess of 60mph. I think it could be the tie rods they have alot of free play.

Not sure about the shaking but how is your TEMS stuck on sport? Is the button just stuck down? All it is is a contact on the sport button that completes a curciut when down, and when you push the normal button it opens the curcuit.

^^^^ you must have never rode in a car with working TEMS.. it does very much do something. the difference is enough that if im driving with it at normal, i can tell without even looking at the lights or the switch. much much softer and wooshier

I'd have gotten back to you sooner but I decide to take two hours and overhaul my alternator. I have 19 years of driving a Supra with working TEMS (I assure you, *everything* on my car works) but OK, if you say so ;)

this really depds on what springs you have and if your shock's are dead

tems does do a diff but if your spring's are not mached for them then the shock will not do it what there suppost to do akak over power the dampern

if the button is stuck on sport selection try taking the switch unit out and cleaning it. the bottom of the unit will have small screwdriver slots to pry the switch itself out, and from there you can remove the buttons/covers and give them a good cleaning. just watch out you dont lose the ball bearing in there.

I didn't think my TEMS caused the shaking. I wasn't 100% sure, I was just curious what happens when It goes bad. Neither of my buttons (normal or sport) are sticking so I assume in perfect working order. Also I can tell the difference between normal and sport. In normal with my low profile tires my car is bouncy and soft. Thanks for everyones input.

Even with aftermarket springs and struts on mine i can still feel the difference between normal, sport, and full siff. Always have. btw goto the junk yard and get a new tems computer. U can get them cheap and they arent hard to get too. IIRC passenger side rear near the tail lights

Justin, what aftermarket stuff are you referring to? I thought there was only one setup availble that was TEMS compatable. (The name escapes me at the moment). I've never been able to discern much of a difference at all on the stock system, even when the car was brand new.

The easiest way for me to tell the difference (both on stock and upgraded suspension) was to set TEMS to soft and drive down a long straight road with nobody around. While doing about 30mph rock the steering wheel back and forth - gently but enough to actually cause the car to shift weight around. Observe the amount of body roll. Then set TEMS to sport and do the same test - making sure to rock the wheel about the same amount as before.

Sure, it isn't scientific but you should notice a bit of difference. I noticed this on all of the Supras I test drove before picking up my 89T.

I know it does something as Toyota usually doesn't gimmick a feature any more than they have too. Just that I've never felt much of a difference. It's very easy to test the TEMS with the car parked and engine off. If the actuators are working the system is working unless there is a problem in the struts. Doing those tests and bouncing the car never seemed to make much of a difference. Neither did driving it. I'll try again using your method and see if I can feel anything.

Only if I'm forced to. Unlike most I don't keep this car because I "love" it, I keep it because it puts money back into my pocket every single day. Buying it new when I was in my 20's was one of the dumbest financial decisons I ever made. I've learned some things about handling money since then ;)
