i just got my turbo and inspected it. the turbo sais garrett air research followed by a number 82 in a gun crosshair looking circle. and there is also a marking that reads m24in a small circle.

what kinda turbo is it?

btw did i mention the turbo is brand spankn nNEW. it came with this 40x5 and 3 inch thick intercooler with no name on it.

I dont suggest taking it apart unless you know what you're doing and are careful. The housings are just big circular metal hunks with specific area ratios, but are otherwise no big deal. The wheels and shaft themselves however are delicate and should be precisely balanced. I've been told to minimize touching them with bare fingers because of skin oils, but I think they see worse than that.

Regardless, I'd be very careful with it all. A turbo and its innards are more important than an actual human baby.

Take it apart and measure both the inducer and exducer of the compressor and turbine. Then compare it to garrett cataog.

^this is the only way to know.

Taking the housings off is no big deal, you won't throw anything off balance, just don't drop it or nick the compressor / turbine with the housings.

:biglaugh:

as long as you take it slow when disassembling you shouldn't have any problems with the wheels.
