What does the VSV do?

I noticed tha my VSV's are loose and just hanging by their hoses in my enginebay.

They are full of gunk/grease and I'm not shure how they are supposed to be mounted, or what a VSV does for that matter...
Can anybody enlighten me?

iifr, 25860 is the vsv for the egr system and the other is for the fuel vsv.

my fuel vsv has been hanging since i bought the car, but it is suppposed to bolt the the intake with one of the intake bolts from what i can see.

as far as the egr vsv, i dont have one anymore. took it out when i removed the egr.

Why would anyone unbolt them?, perhaps signs of an earlier BHG job?

i took them off my car, i know alot of people who have. you have to pretty much re-do all of your vaccum lines in your engine bay though. it will delete alot to, this is if you get rid of your egr all together as well. best bet would be a vaccum box and scrap it all. works fine for me and plenty of others

yeah, mine had a bhg once before and it was fixed.
