What do you shoot on the Golf Course?

What did you start off shooting?

After a year?

Now? how long?

I have been going to the driving range for a few weeks with my brother in law and cousin. I'm wondering how I will do if I play the course. Is it fun, even if you suck? I was a baseball player (and damn good one) for most of my pre 18 yr old life. Swinging and hitting comes natural, but hitting straight is not always that easy. How many balls should I plan on taking with me the first time out? Will it be like a major league baseball game?

anything that moves.....................

LOL.

I work at a niceee ass golf course(+$100 for a round) and get free golf but I CANNOT hit a golf ball if it were to save my life... It sucks.

My best friend (and co-worker) though can hit under par almost every time, he's going places...

Golfers in the legs with my pellet gun when I was a kid :evil2:

I wasn't that violent. We had a trail through the woods, and would run out and steal balls after the drive, and run the trail and dash across a 6 lane main hwy. The guys would be 200yds away, so we never got caught.

It's fun if you don't let it get to ya, remember hitting balls at the range is nothing like playing a game. Get your swing down for a halfway decent shot, then work slowly changing one thing at a time to achieve what you need. I'd recommended a lesson or two first though so you don't get into bad habits.

^ I have always thought that myself. But, I'm getting older now, and need a slow paced sport. I'd play organized softball if they did it near me, but 20 miles each way isn't happening. And golf doesn't seem to hurt my problem neck and shoulders. Softball probably would.

Huge golfer here. :)

I shoot an 80-85 on a good day. Never higher than 95.

Been playing most my life on and off. It can be fun no matter how good you are if you play with people who are worse. ;)

Helpful hint if you're pretty new to golf: Dont swing too hard. Dont look up.

Well, when I started, I was shooting about 130-135ish..... yeah. I really haven't had a whole lot of time recently, but the last time i was out I think I hit a 110 or something. So yeah, I'm not Tiger Woods or anything, but I do enjoy golf.

Golf sucks!!!! Worked at a country club when I was a teen and kept seeing how it ruined peoples day. I always wondered what the appeal was and if it pissed them off so much, why keep spending so damn much money on it? Wait a tick, my supra pisses me off so much and yet I spend so much damn money on it! Hmmm.............

I shoot a ZERO!

Now Miniature Golf is a whole different thing. I can have fun there.:biglaugh:

Nice thread Scott.
I shot a 69 today. I shot 37 on the front and 32 on the back. I made four birdies and an eagle. I also won $86.00 on two dollar bets. We didn't have our poker game since a few of the regulars were out of town.

Golf doesn't necesarily mean you're gay though. As far as I can remember, I've never sucked a dick.

Post 10 FINALLY gets a number.........THANK YOU!

What would be a good score first time out?

I shot a 112 the first time out (I had gone to the driving range quite a few times in the couple weeks before hand to figure some things out). The guys I was playing with told me they were amazed I shot that low :dunno:

I also played lefty on a bet once and shot 108 (winning the bet with 2 strokes to spare). That doesn't really count though, as I had already been playing for a number of years.

I think most people are in the 130-140 range their first time out.

That was ~ 10 years ago... After a brief dip into the high 70's/low 80's when I could play 3-4 times per week, I now shoot mid-to-high 80's depending on how well I know the course (and my mood:icon_bigg)...

Fine, I'll concede the point. You're not gay - but the guy sucking your dick is.:icon_razz

130 would be pretty good for a first timer keeping score legitimately.

Have fun though!!! You'll probably suck for a while, but dont let it get you down. If you start making improvements the game gets very, very fun. :)

OK, I'll be honest. After 3 trips to the driving range, I actually played my first game. I felt like I did WAY better than I should have for a first time out. I shot 131. But, it seems like maybe it is about par for the rookie course. I'll be back, and hopefully do a little better.
