First of I searched, and I cant seem to search the word "HOP" so it was usless. My questions is... What causes wheel hop? I have had wheel hop for some time now. I recently replaced my stock springs with H&R lowering springs, and 4 brand new KYB GR-2 shocks. First impression is that it felt pretty stiff. One thing I did notice is that I still have the same wheel hop problem. So what is this wheel hop caused by?

Also, a few weeks have passed by since I installed the springs and shocksl. At first it felt fine, but now im hearing weird noises in the suspension, rear and front. It sounds as if the shocks were bottoming out (like if the springs were sagging). I only hear these noises when driving on surfaces with alot of bumps or crappy roads.

I also noticed that the stock bump stops in the front end are destroyed. Could these bump stops be causing these noises? Also I dont know in what shape the rear bump stops are. So I will inspect them tomorrow and see what I find.

As hard as that was to read, I'm still going to take a shot at the most basic part of this. Wheel hop, is caused by a wheel being extremely unbalanced. It also occurs at all times when the wheel is spinning fast enough, and not just going over bumps.

well you basically already answered all of your questions already. Take your wheels down to a local tire store and have them balanced.
For the suspension, the reason the first few weeks were ok was because the bump stops weren't destroyed yet, but driving on rough roads with supper low springs don't work well and you probably bottomed it out so much that you smashed apart the bump stops. So basically that sums it up

bent traction arms and shitty bushings.

svnmpwr1990: are you serious? there are no bushing in the rear end.

.....yes there is, unless you mean the diff....

I count 28 rubber bushings in a stock rear portion of the supra in my head right now!

Wheel hop is a traction issue that can be closely associated with the drive train. Imagine the perfect burnout in your head. The tires peel out and don't stick to the road. It's a constant slip between the tires and the road.

Wheel hop is different. Lets say you go and try to peel out. Instead of the normal screech of the tires it more of a series of chirps and bangs. It's caused by slop in the driveline and suspension not holding the wheel rigidly. It can be caused by subframe bushings, unbalance in the driveline (including wheels), loose suspension components and bushings, damaged suspension components, bad frame to name a few.

As for the rest of the suspension, it could be a side effect of stiffer springs. It could be just the entire car vibrating to the stiffer components. The lowering springs decrease shock travel, but the stiffer shocks should help deal with the small amount of travel. Check to make sure you tightened everything down and check if other bushings like control arms and such aren't causing the noise.

Wheel hop is caused by the traction arm flexing under load, and then snapping back in place rapidly while under load from spinning tires. The fix is to buy larger, stronger traction arms. LIPP makes about the best there is for the MKIII, but A-1, and a few other make great sets as well for a bit cheaper.
