What are these, and can I remove them?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I haven't been able to figure it out. On the 7m-ge there are 2 diaphrams that don't seem to serve a necessary purpse. The first is on the intake manifold: (sorry the pics suck)

It looks like it runs off a vacuum and when it opens it blocks off half of the intake manifold where the CSI is. What is the purpose of this? I plan on removing the cold start injector too.

The second is on the throttle body:

Is this really necessary?

I am trying to clean up the engine bay as much as possible and get rid of anything that it not needed, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

you need the second one, the first one you WANT!

that is toyotas ACIS variable length intake runner thingy bob.

when youre flooring it in your NA, and you feel that sudden jump of power (very slight but noticable) that is the ACIS shifting position.

the second one keeps the car from stalling when you snap the TP shut.

^^ the dashpot is only there for emissions control. It can be removed without notice during a smog test, as most techs don't have a clue its there.

Its purpose is to slow the throttle plate from closing instantly, which if it does, causes a short (but small)rise in CO% and HCs (rich condition).

Make sure the ACIS (accoustic air intake control) vacuum motor is hooked up to the solenoid properly, as that is how the ECU turns it on / off.

Your next question will be...can you do anything to modify it for performance??. I have tried several different ways, and the original factory setup works best.
