so...my problem is...a few days ago, my car started right up. i went to the gas station and put some gas in it and it wouldn't turn over. it would crank.

well, i got a tip off that it might be the security system
so, what are the signs and how do you fix this problem?

thanks

When the security system cuts on, the horn will sound and headlights come up flashing. The car will not start...it looks like you have power, but it will not turn over. No starter, no click, nothing. You can try shutting the door and turn the key to unlock from the outside...that should turn it off.

I usually look for

around the rear license plate.

What you describe IS a syptom, and you should try to lock/unlock the hatch or passenger door with your key a few times. With a bit of luck, the alarm relay will reset.

If you unlock the door and the alarm goes off, that's because the driver's door is frequently used and the plastic tab that disarms the alarm bends, and then breaks off.

lol @ the thread title mate,

A symptom of the security systems homosexuality can be the car randomly cutting out and not restarting. Mine did this as the relays inside it got dirty and cut the power to the ignitor. consequently i was pulling a code 14 which i wrongly beleived to be the ignitor.

well, so far all of the replies in this thread should be deleted.

you say two conflicting things here. first you said it wouldnt turn over, but then you said it would crank.

well, does it crank or dosnt it?

if it DOES crank, its not your alarm system.

our alarms have a stock ignition kill and it wont turn over if you try to start it with the alarm activated.

Yep. The the theft deterent ECU will not complete the starter circuit if the system is tripped by opening a door, hood, or trunk with out first unlocking the driver door with a key.

You have an engine problem, or more accurately, the electronic system that runs it.

What Nick and lagged said. A crank no start is *not* a security system symptom. The system will not allow cranking. It has no connection to the EFI system, only the cranking circuit.

yeah... i think he meant to say "wouldNT crank"

cause he explained it to me as not cranking at all...which is why i said security system. if it DID crank i understood him wrong and obviously its something else.
