what are the best rocommended bearing to buy for performance build?

i've heard mixed feelings about the Clevite 77s and i've heard some other brands mentioned that i cannot remember. so, i was wondering what bearings have you guys used and what you would recommend for a build around 400rwhp? oh and where did you get them at? :icon_bigg

I've used Clevites (granted i'm not at 400hp... YET!) with no problems. I've also known people to use them in 700hp applications. A coating could work well on them. I think its Power Enterprise that makes bearings that are supposed to have a "special" surface that reduces friction and wear. But i haven't heard any feedback on those yet. Anyone here?

I've used DFL-1 coated Clevites with great success over the years.

We used the PowerEnterprise F1 Black Metal bearings in quite a few 2JZ's. No failures to date but the 2JZ is so damned bulletproof that might not be saying much.

As far as I know PE doesn't make a 7M bearing.

Clevite don't make a 7M bearing anymore :(

They're reboxed NDC's so it comes down to price, you might find NDC's in NDC boxes cheaper.
(NDC are a Japanese performance bearing and very good quality just don't have the egg shape tech of genuine Clevites)

Mike: Don't tease the old it's unkind ;)
(To me they're worth something but we're talking about 7M owners here they won't pay a premium)

My Crank ended up 20/30 after all the work so I'm limited in bearing choices.

king performance bearings are good. in my opinion better than the "new" clevites. ive seen a few 1000hp 2j's with king but like supracentral said- i dont know if that accounts for anything.

ij: i thought u werent "supposed to" turn a performance turbocharged crank past 10/10?

Ed: The King Bimetal's are a disaster waiting to happen....
(I'm guessing their performance bearings are the TriMetal series though)

Normally yes 10/10 is the limit without expensive further work ;)

yup trimetals.
i thought anything over 10/10 created a "weak spot". i think ur the only non-dumbass (compliment intended lol) mk3 owner i know who has a crank past that

Ed: The Surface hardening on a 7m crank is quite shallow so after 10/10 you're into the soft base metal.

My Crank has been stress relieved then niterided to bring it back to the correct hardness, I have too many $$$ in it to scrap it when it needed a regrind so it was worth paying to have it bought back to the correct specs.

I see that now that i'm on MY computer. On the other computer those allen heads looked like balls. That's what i'm going to do with my 2J crank, knock out the balls and tap & plug!
