Wow... Read some of those comments... Chill hippies, they weren't looking for sharks they just happened to find one. The whole goddamn ocean isn't going to fall apart because one shark died. You wanna bitch about it, go after shark fishermen.

That aside, that is a damn big fish.

I wonder what it is like to be swimming with a 1000 lb fish chasing you and trying to eat you...

i dunno but if a shark ever tried to get me, id kill it and BBQ it.

thats like the ultimate payback. not only did you save your self, but you killed the fucker then had it for dinner.

Yeah, they caught that right down the way from me... Kind of a bullshit manuever in my opinion, basically, they "snagged" the shark while she was feeding, then another boat came and the put two roped gaff hooks through her gills... IMO, its bullshit, shouldnt be considered a record, and they need a punch in the face for killing such a beautiful fish... They couldve measured the fish and made a very accurate weight... If you arent going to eat it, DONT kill it... Unless its trying to kill you, thats another story... But a shark of this size isnt good to eat... And the fact that they are on the "threatened" list and this being a female makes me mad... People dont realize that this shark doesnt even reach sexual maturity for 5 years, and 10 feet in length, and dont reproduce often... What's REALLY fucked up is the guy said he was giving the shark to researchers in the article, but he actually sold it for $5 a pound to a fish market here...

Im no tree hugger, I love to eat meat, and fish... But I understand the need for the protection of apex predators in the ocean and the importance of thier role... Also, I have always had a love, fascination and respect for the shark ever since I was a kid...

Hence the difference between the religion of enviormentalism and just good ecoology.
