Well, I found the limit for a stock head gasket.

20psi on a 57trim CT26 does not play well with others, unless they are entirely metal. 5 out of 6 of the cylinders had pushed the gasket out into the water jackets. Pushed enough pressure into the cooling system that it blew my rad hoses.

Tore it down today, if I'm lucky I'll have it running again in short order, as in a couple days. Now my back hurts from bending over the engine bay all day!

Oh well, luckily a head gasket really isn't that much work on the Supra.

Three cheers for 20psi on a stck HG! hip hip hooray! Just out of curiousity did you have arp studs or stockers torqued down?

Thats funny, I did the same thing at the track last weekend. Pushing 18 through a SP61Gt on the stocker. Warped all six rings on the gasket and blew coolant through 3 of them. Made an impressive white cloud though. Using ARP head studs, torqued to 80ft lbs., pump gas.

I'll have to remember this once I start upping the boost with my 60-trim. Will the car be back together for SupraFest?

Actually, I've been running it at that setting for a while - my usual method is to turn it up until it breaks, then fix it and turn it down some. I had no specific plans to hit a dyno anytime in the near future.

Loki, I'm trying to get it all back together in time for Supra Fest. Might happen, too... the head should be back by tomorrow after work, I'll have the gaskets and parts tomorrow at lunch... the only question is whether I can get it all put together in three nights after work.

you should be able to get it back together in 3 days no problem. Maybe even shorter depending on how much time you put into it each day.

Sorry to hear that. I wonder if you might have met the limits of the stock fuel system as well.

That is a lot of boost for the stock fuel set up in my opinion. Would detonation deform the HG in the way you described?

Could be detonation, could be just too much power. I doubt that I'm over the limit on the stock fuel system - my EGT can't be too high, as the pistons are still in prime condition. I've seen pistons in an engine running lean, and mine do not look as though they are getting hot enough to worry about.
