okay, got a new taillight failure box, and the second i plugged it in, my taillights lit up, YAAAAAAAAAAY!

well, I'm driving my car home from the mechanics (to get it smogged, she actually passed!) and my bro's behind me in my mom's car, and we're messing around a bit, and my bro pulls up and tells me "hey, your brake lights aren't working"

FUCK!

the 3rd brake light works, the tails illuminate when the headlights are on, but no brake lights..

which is the opposite of what I had before I replaced the box, the taillights worked perfectly while braking, but wouldn't illuminate with the headlights on...

so, now I gotta find a 3rd taillight failure sensor, or attempt to fix one of the two..

I opened up my old one, and one of the wires is burned, I'm thinking of soldering in a new one. But would it be possible that the two boxes just sucked, and I should just replace it with a different one?

I don't think, if i keep switching the boxes, the same issues arise with the box, so I'm 99.999999999% sure it's the boxes..

I'm just wondering if it's best to repair mine, or spend $20 on another (im absolutely broke right now, but I get paid friday).

I would also say that you might have a short some where in the wiring. Maybe you should try and repair yours and see if it works good after that or else if it does not work out then I would replace it.

Would a stereo install cause it?

BestBuy said if anything wrong happens, ill need proof from a certified electrician, stating the installation of the stereo directly caused a malfunction...

otherwise I'm pretty much fucked..

let's say my original box is box A, and the one i bought is box B

box A has working brake lights, but nothing else, there's no illumination unless i press the brake pedal

box B has working rear lights, but no brake lights..

if i keep switching out the boxes (and bulb holders, i had a pair of JDM's without the rear markers hanging around), the same issue with box A is present and likewise with box B...

i tried switching the bulbs around, and all bulbs work as they should (dual filaments, so they're bright with box A for braking, and they light up normal with box B).

one thing to note, if i press the brakes with box A (the one that lights up the brakes) no warning light comes on, on my dash..

with box B, the taillight failure light comes on...

rear side markers work regardless of box, and so does the 3rd brake light..

hope that clarifies things a little, and if it is due to a stereo install, how can i fix it, or how can that be determined.?
