Well for the first time in my life I welded today at my brother-in-law's shop... all I gotta say is, I have an even bigger respect for that now. Seeing the work that gets put out by ron and many others, it takes quite a ton of work and practice, damn. But boy is it fun, haha!

TIG is fun as hell. In welding shop class I was one of only two students that could do a decent job with that machine. Even the shop teahcer didn't know how to do it but because we wanted to learn they brought a guy out from one of the local mines to teach us.

^^yeah but it works. the guy who taught me to weld(although i'm still not very good) taught me on a cheap stick welder first. then the mig welder was like useing a hot glue gun. gonna weld up my exhaust this winter wooo!

^ stick is probly the second hardest for me to use...oxyacetylene is the best to learn with because it teaches you to make a proper bead consistently smooth, to if you practice enough. I love mig. it soooooo easy.

I guess when I was learning, stick was the hardest, especially overhead :). But having done all processes, TIG became my favorite. If you have access to oxy-acetylene, it's like an old school TIG :D.
Thanks for the compliments on my welds, BTW. Ron

Learned on stick, have done some TIG, but really, like the MIG for working on smaller projects.

IJ's right, Ron does artwork :) and the fit and quality of the finished job is dang nice for sure. One of these days, I'd love to have a FFIM from Ron. Just need to find the money now to do the changes needed for that upgrade.

Personal favorite is welding stainless steel.
